I'm desperate and need help. My dad got his interview and it did not go well. He is requered to obtain his California police and court records. He has a record, that's why they requested it. How can he do that if he is living in Guatemala. He asked the consular officer but he did not answer. We do not know what to do. Can anyone help? Please!

An individual requiring an apostille or authenticated copy of his/her FBI Identification Record, or any non U.S. person who wishes to request his/her FBI Identification Record must submit a request directly to the FBI CJIS Division. The U.S. Department of State Authentications Office can then place an apostille document for use in a country party to the Hague Apostille Convention. For countries not party to the Hague Apostille Convention, the U.S. Department of State Authentication Office will place a certification over the FBI seal.

Thanks for replying. I checked the link but it says that to apply for the records the person must do it in person. The info. you provided is for authentications or appostille only. Am I right?

~Moving to bringing family members of USCs~ LPRs not eligible to file for parents.~

OP, have father write you a Power of Attorney for this specific matter and you go chase up the documents requested in whichever way possible, over the phone, mail, fax request in - they'll always ask for that power of attorney before they issue you that so have it ready - you're in the US, right?

Why do they need a POA? Or a phone? Or a fax?

For a moderator, you shouldn't just throw out random advice when you don't know the answer.

Use Google. The answer on how to get the record is right there in the first link.

I did Google and i read all the info in the first link. The info apply for people living in the US because they have to submit their fingerprints, but it does not say anything about people living abroad. :(

Have a friend who lived in Louisiana, his record (1) was requested by embassy

he googled court he was in , talked to few ppl , they told him its so long, they'd have

to do a search (at a cost) but he should called back, in the mean-time he called the court

appointed atty who wanted a fee to search his record. He then call the following week

to the court a young lady feeling sorry for him scanned and email him report, then mailed

out certified copy, a week later the probation ppl sent his crime, sentence & good behavior,

he is not in the US let your fingers do the walking...all that time NVC already had a copy in his file
