House burgled -- lost UK Passport & Green card! Travelling soon, please help

Hi there,

It's been a nightmarish day, but our house was broken into and the safe which contained my green card and my UK passport was successfully broken into I now have neither my British passport nor my US Green Card. I've already started the replacement process for the Green Card, however for the UK passport I have no idea what to do! I know I can apply for a new one but it takes at least 6 weeks, and I'm travelling during that time to attend a memorial service for a relative back in the UK

Does anybody have any suggestions whatsoever as to the best course of action here?

To get back to the US you will need to go the the Embassy and get a travel document for LPRs (pay money too).

For UK passport, idk, but there must be some sort of expedite available.

This is what confuses me: I was told I could get an I-551(?) stamp in my passport to get back into the country prior to leaving, but obviously with the passport also stolen this doesn't seem a likely action.

Am I "allowed" to leave the country on, say, an emergency travel document issued by the UK consulate in Texas, obtain a new passport while in the UK, and then go to the Embassy (US) to obtain this LPR travel document -- knowing that I didn't actually lose the Green Card whilst abroad?

Oh, you are in the US now. I thought you were abroad now.

I don't know about emergency UK documents. You'll have to ask USCIS if you can get some sort of stamp on a temporary document.

You don't need the GC to leave, but it will be easier to get a way to get back before you go, at least theoretically.

Your UK Consulate should give U an emergency travel document which

U take to USCIS to be stamped (they both may need proof of emergency)

When U R in the UK its up to U to re-apply and wait for PP or travel back to

the US on emergency PP.....PS; make sure U have a police report on break in

to speed up the process......best wishes

You'll need to contact the UK embassy near you. They will be able to get you emergency travel docs while you wait for your passport replacement.
