Hi,

I just wanted to share my experience so it may benefit others.

09/10/13: I sent my forms I-130, I-485 and I-765 to the Chicago Lockbox.

09/13/13: USCIS received the forms.

09/26/13: I received in my mailbox a NOA for the form I-130 and I-485, and a biometrics appointment for 10/10/13.

10/09/13: I go to my biometrics appointment a day earlier and since I was the only one there, they took my fingerprints and my picture even though it was a day early.

10/10/13: The status of my form I-765 online changed to "request for evidence response review" in the morning, even though I have never had any request for evidence and I therefore never sent any evidence. A few minutes later, the status for all my forms changed to "your address was changed" even though I never requested any change of address nor did I move.

10/11/13: In the morning, I received an email stating that my status has been updated. It reads: On October 11, 2013 we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days." and my case is now under card/document production. I am very surprised considering the number of days since my application was accepted, so I call them and they confirmed that my EAD was indeed being mailed to me.

10/15/13: I received the initial NOA of the form I-765 that was sent to the wrong address at first (they put my street number as my apartment number but only for the I-765, not the other forms).

During the following days, I get worried that the EAD is not coming so I called USCIS to find out what the tracking number was but they didn't have one. I also notice the NOA was re-mailed to me on Oct 11 like the EAD so I call them and ask if that is the document that was mailed to me, but they answered that it isn't. There's also a stamp on the NOA that reads "Action Completed, Approved For Filing" so I ask them what it means and they tell me it means the I-765 is approved. At least 6 or 7 people confirmed my EAD was approved, even though there was never any "card in production" or "USPS picked up" status.

10/28/13: Today I called my congressman's office to ask them if they could find out what was going on with my EAD. After 30 mins, I am told the EAD application is still pending and was never approved. There was a glitch in the system and they apologize for it. What was mailed to me on Oct 11 is indeed the NOA that was sent to the wrong address in the first place.

So I told USCIS customer service representatives and immigration officers a few times that I don't think my EAD was ever sent to me and what was showing on their screen was probably the NOA but all of them told me my EAD was being mailed to me.

Now I learnt not to trust what USCIS writes or says. Maybe sharing this will be able to help others not to get their hopes up like I did.

Chris
