Passport stolen

Hi all. sorry if this is the wrong place but im pretty shock up.

my home got burgled last night, a lot of stuff got stolen which is my livelihood.

they of course stole my passports. one is a new one, the other one is an expired one but has my US B1/B2 visa. I was also due to travel to the US in a weeks time.

I have reported my passport stolen. I followed the instructions on the US Embassy (London) website about what to do if your passport/visa is stolen.

question is, what are the chances of me being able to get the visa re-issued if I already had it issued before?

this is seriously a big concern for my career and tourist purposes. not eligible to travel on VWP otherwise I wouldn't have applied for the visa.

thank you.

Reissue of visa should be pretty standard; you are already approved.

But you said you didn't get the visa stolen, just your new passport. The old passport has the old visa in it, which is valid, yes?

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

I'm confused.

You have an old passport still in your possession with a valid visa in it.

You had a new passport, that has been stolen, with no visa in it.

So you just need a new passport?

Lost or Stolen Non-US Passports containing valid U.S. Visas

If your passport containing a valid U.S. visa is lost or stolen, you are required to report the loss or theft to the Embassy. Please either email LondonLASP@state.gov or write to the The Visa Branch, US Embassy, 24 Grosvenor Square, London, W1K 6AH, with the following information:

  • Your full name, date and place of birth;
  • The number and nationality of the lost or stolen passport;
  • The type of visa held and date and place of issuance;
  • Description of the loss or theft and if it has been reported to the police and/or your embassy. If reported to the police, please provide details including crime report/reference number.

Email the address given, and I imagine they'll tell you what to do about getting a new visa issued in a new passport while you also report the theft. Edit: Sorry, you did that bit.

I doubt you'll be travelling in a week, but you'll probably want to tell them you have travel plans and see what they say. I'm assuming they haven't replied, but that looks like your best bet for knowing what to do.

You also need to report your stolen passport (assuming it was a UK one):

https://www.gov.uk/report-a-lost-or-stolen-passport EDIT: Sorry, you already did that bit. Good job.

And then you'll probably want to get yourself booked in for a quick-turnaround new passport:

https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently

I'm sorry this is stressful! Getting a new passport quickly should help get things moving though, you'll need to do that before they can issue you a new visa, but it's not so bad getting 1 day appointments (I did so last September when I had my bag stolen with my passport in it 8 days before a trip to the USA - I know in a smaller way how stressful it is).

thanks. I appreciate it. I had an apt booked for tomorrow morning for the UK Passport however having just got the time to fill out the forms seems that I need a counter signatory so I cannot go tomorrow which sucks. I now need to delay my trip to the US as I was supposed to leave next weekend.

the thing I read on the us embassy London site was that if you have the visa/passport stolen then pretty much, its a new application. I also did get a response from the embassy by email and said:

Please note that now you have reported your passport as lost or stolen we will not be able to amend your record should you find the passport. If your passport is ever recovered, it can no longer be used for travel to the United States.

Once you have obtained a new passport, you may apply for a new visa. Please note that it is not possible to transfer a visa from one passport to another without making a new visa application. Detailed information about how to apply for a nonimmigrant visa can be found on our website: http://london.usembassy.gov/niv/apply.html.

Visa appointments can be scheduled online at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb or alternatively through our call center. Callers within the United Kingdom should dial 020 3608 6998. Callers from the United States should dial 703-439-2367. The call center is open Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 9:00pm (local time: EST in the U.S.). The call center is closed on all UK and U.S. holidays.

Oh. :( Well, I guess that's that. I'd be inclined to included all the info about your stolen passport and old approval/visa in your new application. Was your old visa valid for long?

yes,had another 8 years left on it.

Yeah. Then I think it'll be okay. You just have to go through the faff of making a new visa application appointment, like before.

The thing is, they say that there is no replacement or anything but a new application thus its like you have not applied for it again meaning no guarantee they will grant the visa. that is such a worrying concern for me.

I guess that's true, but the odds are very much in your favour as you already had an approved visa with plenty of years left on it. So, I'd be surprised if you were denied.
