Interview in Helena, MT

Just got back home from our AOS interview in Helena, MT. Approved - what a relief!

We arrived at the tiny Homeland Security office at about 9.40 for our 10 am appointment. No-one else was in the waiting room so we chatted with the security guard until our Examiner called us at about 10.20. We had consciously decided to just assume that it was all going to go well so we managed to appear more relaxed and confident than we really were. I was dragging a small wheeled suitcase (literally) full of evidence and I reassured the Examiner that, despite appearances, we weren't actually planning on staying for a whole week.

The first thing she said when we got into the office was 'this is the first time in a long time that I've been presented with so much evidence which I actually believe'. I decided that was a good sign.

She asked me for documents such as originals of birth, divorce and marriage certificates and for my social security card (which I hadn't been expecting), then our wedding photo albums (which John tells me she smiled at - I was too busy riffling around in the suitcase to notice) and she tested him on my birthdate, place of birth, names of my parents, how we met...all easy questions. And she didn't ask me anything at all about him. She was very interested in our new house though. I'd included the real estate info and she seemed quite taken with it.

All in all it took about half an hour and I didn't shed a single tear (although I sobbed non-stop through my interview at the Embassy in London). I asked if I could keep the AP docs as I was hoping to visit my parents at the New Year so she gave me back one of them.

Quite a pleasant experience - I love Montana. Glad it's over though!
