Is switching interview dates possible?

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a good experience with the fiance visa.

We are in a major bind with our fiance visa interview. We just scheduled my fiance visa interview for Dec 5, 2013 and this is our problem: A while ago, after we received our NOA2 in Sept, we felt very comfortable with setting a wedding date, but based off of other people's timelines and predictions, we felt we would have tons of time for this process to be complete well before Dec 7th, 2013. You can see our predicament, since we have set that, family members from across both Canada and the United states have taken time off work, and booked flights/hotels. But with an interview date on Dec 5th, we will not have the visa in time for the wedding on Dec 7th. Unfortunately, we can't reschedule the wedding date without our family, me and my fiance wasting hundreds and hundreds of dollars to readjust. We would consider this a huge financial loss that we absolutely can't afford.

Needless to say, we are desperate to get an earlier interview date. I am wondering if there is a possible way to switch interview dates with someone on this forum who might have an earlier interview date. If someone is willing to help us, this would seriously help us out in a big way. We are looking for an angel! I hope there is someone on this forum who can help us somehow! We would be forever grateful.

Thanks for listening.

You won't have any luck trying to get someone to switch interview dates with you. As you have to schedule it online how would they transfer the date to you, if they went and tried to remove their date then anyone would be able to see the opening and snag it before you did. Anyways if you really want an earlier date start stalking the site and keep clicking till if and when one pops up, and hope you don't lose your Dec 5th date in the process.

Sorry but ppl are warned to not make solids plans till the visa is in your hands, you could be held up in AP or anything really.

One could always email Mtl......But I would say ur chance are extremely slim as its well known not to make any advance plans

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I had my wedding date set for September 14th 2013. Well, my interview date is scheduled for November 13th, so we ended up having to postpone the wedding. We were in the same boat! We sent in our Visa petition 10 months ago and thought we would for sure have it! Well, that was a big blow to us and made us realize all the more why not to set a date. But this whole ordeal was more than we could have ever imagined! My heart goes out to you in this difficult time. I know exactly what you are going through! The amount of sleeplessness, agitation, downright stressfulness of this situation can be so unbearable. It is a very (in my opinion) aweful process all around. All I can suggest to you is to keep checking the website for scheduling interviews and let your venue and whoever else know that you may need to postpone. This is something out of your control and who knows? Maybe you won't lose as much as you think? That's exactly what happened in my situation. Our venue, photographer and Dj were all willing to postpone with us and we didn't lose anything major. It was a miracle. We are now aiming for Dec. 20th for our wedding date, in anticipation that the interview goes well. Hang in there! I'll say some prayers for you!

Hello all:

@jasonribs: Hope you can get a date as per your needs.

I have a date booked for Feb 14th 2014..I needed help on trying to find an earlier date. Do we have to cancel the existing one to get a new one?

When I click reschedule appointment it only shows me the next available.. If I cancel the one I have now, I dont want to lose that and get a much later date in the process.

Anyone knows how can we find out dates by not cancelling exisiting one?

Thanks for all the help in this forum

As an outside chance - you can email Montreal as mentioned above but it's unlikely- but you can imagine that you're not the only person who would like faster service or desparate for an earlier date, we all would have. I wouldn't cancel what you have because then you'll really be up the creek with no interview date at all and you won't be able to get your old date back.

I would start re-planning the wedding date now and don't make it final until your VISA is in hand. I think you realize now that you made a serious error planning a hard date and it may unfortunately cost family and friends a few fees to reschedule. People warn against it constantly in this forum .

So that said - it is what it is.....mistake made, contingency is needed. Make it known early (aka now) to family and friends and see what the damage really is. Hotels can be cancelled without any major fees (usually none) when it's this far ahead. Vacations can be changed, find out what everyone's flights change charges will be and see how it can be worked out - I would NOT recommend setting a new date until you have the VISA in hand. Not even when they say it's approved do you know for sure you'll get it back in a timely fashion. People go into Administrative Processing randomly.

Immigration doesn't work on anyone's schedule but their own.
