Hi guys and girls, I'm new to the forum and looking for a bit of advice

I have an old college friend that lives in Florida, I've been in touch with him for years. I'm from the UK and looking to visit him and his wife. I also want to rent a car and drive around the USA. I'd like to spend a couple of months with them at their request, but under the VWP that would only leave me a month to see what I want to see and that wouldn't be long enough in my mind.

I then read about the B2 visa and see that you can at the immigration officers discretion ,get up to 6 months to travel before having to leave. However getting a B2 visa is not a certainty. It all seems rather up in the air as to whether or not a visa gets approved. So maybe you can offer some advice.

So some background

1) I have more than enough money for my stay in the USA

2) I own a property, however it is not in the UK, but in the Channel Islands

3) I'm a UK citizen but only moved back there in May of 2012, having spent 6 years in the Channel Islands.

4) I've had steady employment up until I moved back to the UK, I hope to find something soon, so at the moment I'm without work.

5) I moved back in with family so my permanent residence is in the UK and I have bills to pay there as well as for my property.

6) I plan to travel around May 2014

7) I don't have family in the US, nor a girl friend. I'm in my 40's and have no intention of staying in the USA after I done my traveling

I guess some of those things are negative, so I'd like some opinions on the likely hood of getting approved

I thought maybe just going with the Visa waiver program to be on the safe side but the extra time would be a bonus. I just wonder what happens with regards to visiting the US if your application for a B2 is denied?

From what you have said do not bother, use the VWP.

If your B-2 is denied then you can't use the VWP ever again.

Is that really worth the risk?

Small chance of a B2 for you.. even with savings, they will wonder how you can afford it and why you don't work.

Why not split up the trip? See your friends for 2 months, go home, then go back a few months later for a 2 months road trip.
