Hi!

My mother wants to visit me(naturalize USC) and my husband(USC) in US.

What type of visa does she need? Does she initiate the application or us?

What paperwork does she need from me/my husband?

How long does it take to obtain the visa? She is Romanian.

Thanks

SHE needs to apply for a tourist visa. SHE needs to show very strong ties to her home country. YOU do not do anything. You can send her money to cover the trip and she can show that amount in a bank account. An invitation letter is not a good idea as it will show she has ties to the US and will remain. Go in with the expectation that she will be denied and hope for the best. If she has travelled to other countries that will help. My wife got denied on her first application for a tourist visa and she tried again after two weeks with the exact same evidence and was approved by a different IO at the Consulate. So we were out the first application fee, but after that she has been able to get a tourist visa to the US without a problem. My MIL had no problems. Goto the wesite for your Embassy to see what is required for a tourist visa.

Good luck,

Dave

What kinds of questions should she expect from the counselor?

I have heard that a letter of invitation( or smth like that) is advised..I am surprised you say the opposite. I have also heard that W2 and stuff to show that we can support her for her trip(a couple of months). You didn't send anything like that?

What kind of evidence to show ties to her home place should she present?

Thanks

Who told you that?

Usual things, Job, Family commitments, anything that shows why she can not stay and must go home.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
