I have today received another letter confirming my interview on Monday, this time it was accompanied by a check list letter which included the need for a marriage certificate for all marriages even if dissolved.

I have all my documents and have e decree absolute and copy, but never did I know I needed the original marriage certificate!! I don't remember any time upto now in the process needing it - do they really need to see it if I am showing them te decree absolute?

Major panic time.... Please help someone!!

Thanks. :(

I surrendered my original to the court when I divorced I just never knew they would need to see it.

Any one else who has been divorced before help??!!

I was interviewed in June this year and it was on the list of documents required. I did get a copy of my marriage certificate by physically going to the British Library in Euston to get the reference numbers and then ordering it online (although it seems stupid because you can't get a decree absolute without first being married). However, it was never asked for at the interview.

When I queried this with Nich-Nick at the time, she said 'If they really were requiring this, then there would be more posts about it here!'

All I can tell you is that wording about marriage certificates has been a part of London checklists for years. (I go back 5+). It's on there now if you click the "assemble all the documents..." link in Step 2 of the K1 instruction page. BUT I have never known a K1 (mine included) to actually have to present more than proof of divorce. I don't know why it is there, but it is my opinion that it is not something new and suddenly you will be the first person ever to show it. I say forget about it.

Thank you both. It's too late now for me to do anything other than turn up and hope for the best. I could just kick myself I have been ready for months and must've just not noticed the marriage certificate requirement, just the decree absolute.

Fingers crossed I won't be the first to have to show it.

Pressed for time, you could go for your interview early on Monday and the IO can hold on to making a decision until you provide the "needed" paper evidence.

Stay positive, and good luck!

I took mine but they said we are not interested we just want the decree absolute to make sure you are free to marry. So do not worry, they most likely will not be interested.

Congratulations! I took mine with me and they never asked for it either! They should take it off the list if you're divorced...
