Hello Everyone,

My wifes; AOS interview is January 07, and we plan on travelling back to my wife's home country around March of next year.

Typically, how long do we have to wait from the AOS interview approval to receipt of GC by mail? Should two months be enough time?

Also, should I buy the plane tickets in my wife's maiden name on her passport, or her married name on the GC?

What documents, beyond passport and GC, should we bring when travelling in order to avoid any name issues with Customs/immigration upon return to the USA?

thanks

Buying tickets, should be in her maiden name since her passport is still in her maiden name, just don't forget to bring your marriage certificate to prove the married name in her GC.

about AOS result, it varys because it depends in circumstances maybe experience, like some take the I-94 and stamp their passport, in some cases not being stamped, some like need to undergo for a FBI name check or other stuff. But check on other VJ members who undergo interview and been approved an until the duration the GC was received by mail. I can't much to say about after interview since i never been into AOS interview.

Goodluck!

The passport and tickets should match, bring the marriage certificate to bridge the difference

You may want to consider AP, there is no guarantee that you have passed the FBI Name check, if you join us in that Limbo, you will need the AP to travel

My wife filed for AP at the same time as AOS so if she does get hung up with the name check, we should still get AP.

thai2luv,

As others have already written, the name on the airline tickets should match the name in the passport.

You are more likely to have a problem with airline personnel in Bangkok than with Immigration personel in the USA. As rebelheart writes, the marriage certificate should resolve it.

Yodrak

..... should I buy the plane tickets in my wife's maiden name on her passport, or her married name on the GC?

What documents, beyond passport and GC, should we bring when travelling in order to avoid any name issues with Customs/immigration upon return to the USA?

thanks

If you get full approval at the interview they will stamp your passport so you don't actually need the GC in hand to travel, and if that happens just let them know your travel date and they will make the passport stamp valid long enough to cover your trip needs. That's what just happened with me. My interview was on a Thursday and we flew out of the country on Saturday. The interviewer made the stamp valid for 2 months just to make sure there would be plenty of time, and if there was any concern I'm sure they would make it valid for longer.

As for the name, I've traveled with my ticket saying my married name and my passport saying my maiden name. Both are actually legally valid, but I carry a certified copy of my marriage liscence around with me at all times just to make sure. As I don't have my GC yet, I don't really have much else for id.

Good luck with your interview.
