I got the call from my fiance.

The interview in Dakar went like this:

Lots of questions....

how did we meet, how often do we commuicate, name of website we met online,

was I married before, when divorced, how many kids, my age, was he ever in Dakar before , who does he know here, asked if the pastor from my church organization who was supposed to pick him up is Nigerian ????? What did my email address mean....didn't see that one coming and he forgot....ouch !

Was he denied a tourist visa.....yes....when where etc.,he answered all honestly.

She asked the questions in a personable and conversational manner, joking , laughing.

On and on with strange questions .... who is the person that you are staying with while here in Senegal....

looked at photos of us together, kept 2.

kept a cert. copy of his BC and the original death cert. of his late wife (who was killed in the brutal war along with his sisters and parents.)

kept the affidavit of support.

He answered everything in a satisfactory manner.

She, a white consular officer, was pleasant and even laughed with him. She walked out 2 times during the interview to consult with two other people.????????

She then said she will not give him a visa but she will contact him per phone or email.

He said why, I have travelled 4 days to get here....she said that is the process .......he said when will I get a visa.....she said maybe next year in March......?????????

The form he received has a checked box that says if we need additional information or if you need another interview we will contact you .

What is all this about ?

How do I know if we are in Administrative Review or Security or Background checks??????. I told him to email it to me, don't have it yet, it says nothing of a denial but does not clarify anything. Neither did she say it was approved pending anything.....

I emailed the consulate but don't know if they will reply.

Now what ? It has not been denied seems like, but has it been approved pending checks or investigations? She did not keep his passport, well he needs it to travel back to his country,

4 days of travel through all kinds of rough terrain ! Through the countries of Guinea, Guinea Bisseau , The Gambia onto Sierra Leone.

I had to console him for an hour and he wept and lost all hope of us being together. I told him it is just a longer review or check and to keep the faith.

Is this a time to get in contact with a senator or should I wait. The key is she said March......so we are in some kind of review or check.

Omoba,

Like you said, the key is "MARCH 2007". He was not denied at the Interview. He did not get a 221G (think that's it) indicating denial. He was only told "that is the process" and he must wait. I have no idea what they need to review or why they need 3 months to finally issue the Visa. I have read many posts here at VJ and in countries where there has been a high fraud rate, the steps to a Visa take a slower, more crooked route. So, do not give up hope. Wait for his email an a better explanation of what occurred when he's more calm. Then a better picture may develop. Once the Consulate does their verifications and double checks, I have to believe that things will be OK.

From your post it seems like the visa will still be issued. Some embassies tend to put petitions on AR no matter what. Claudeth and I will be praying for your success

Poor thing! You would think they could give some consideration for those coming from another country! But everything sounds perfectly normal. There is a serious of security checks (sometimes called AP or AR) and once these clear they will issue the visa. There are several women in the MENA forum who know how to call the State department to continue to check on the progress of these checks. You can do that from here and give your fiance a little piece of mind. Do a search or post a question there so they will know you need help figuring htis out.

For Morocco, the checks seem to take anywhere from 2 weeks to 5 months, so maybe march is a reasonable expectation, but it could come sooner. I just hate to think that your fiance has to make the trip home and then back to the consulate to pick up the visa.

I think its good news- so I iwll celebrate for a good interview!:dance::dance:

Thank you everyone. I have often wondered , reading about other peoples AR why the

CO's are just so unwilling to give a more detailed explanation of what the next step

of the process is rather than just say you must wait........why can't they just say this and that will happen and pending the checks you will be approved....why this torture of not knowing....why not just say you are in AR or security checks.......

and yes, you would think they make allowances for countries without K1 processing

embassies.

Oh Omoba,

I just responded to your other post that you made contact with him. I am sorry for your wait but March may be at the longest. Maybe could be as little as a week or two - I dont know, just knwo that they like to cover their a$$es. I wished I had better information for you. At least he is safe. I hope you two are united soon - for good.

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .

Why? I'd guess the Consulate keeps parts of the process "in the dark" because it helps to thwart some of the fraudulent attempts to acquire a Visa. A confusing and partly hidden process will eventually catch those with documents that may be foul or contradictory in content. It's annoying to all of us and creates stress where honest people like us should not need to endure. But as long as the Visa is not denied, we are still in the game!

I have to say it does not sound like an outright denial. His paperwork could be an additional processing form in which some embassies give this form as well as the 221(g). We had both forms given to us and we had tons of evidence. I do know also that the AR/AP time coming out of Islamabad is roughly 6 months and they told you March which is within a AR/AP time frame. Try and get a copy of his document to review for your self and they may have field investigator come to his home, job, family and friends. I know what a blow this is and all I can say is pray and stay positive.

Hi Sabine!

Just wanted to offer my encouragement here as we have been going through this process at the Dakar embassy together. I am happy to read that there was no outright denial! It seems there is still a very good chance his visa will be approved. I am really hoping for that. My thoughts are with you and your fiance during this time. I know you are anxious in the waiting but everything will be fine!
