Hi!

I'm soon to begin my visa journey with my wife who is an US citizen. We are going to file for a CR-1 visa soon after we marry (November 1st, yay!).

I know that when the process is over, I'll have a conditional green card, and after two years I'll file to remove the conditions.

Currently I have a job working for an oil service company here in Norway, where I have this nice schedule where I work 2 weeks and have 4 weeks off, it pays pretty well too.

I plan on keeping this job when I get my GC. Now, my travel pattern will usually be 16-18 days in Norway (at work in the north sea and traveling) and 23-25 days in the US.

I have to account for a day or two of traveling, and also there might be delays due to fog in the north sea. Meaning that I'll be roughly spending anywhere from 7-8 months in the US when I'm not working.

I of course will have all my ties there, except for the job. I'll be filing taxes in the US, have a bank account, credit card, drivers license etc and have my address there with my wife (and hopefully kids in not so long!).

My question is, will the CBP be giving me a hard time at the POE if I have this kind of travel pattern while living in the US as a LPR?

Hope anyone can shed some light on the matter.

I've been reading all about maintaining your LPR on the USCIS page, but this situation is a little out of the ordinary and could not find any clear answers.

Thanks for any opinion on the matter!

January 16th 2015 - Interview letter (P4)
January 30th 2015 - Medical (Approved)

May 15th - Card not yet received, call USCIS and put in service request.
June 15th - Card still not received, call USCIS and put in another request.
June 17th - ELIS portal shows case re-opened, card being produced. Changed to Card Sent with USPS tracking number
June 18th - Card received!

As long as you report all your Norwegian income and file your taxes in the US, and otherwise establish domicile in the US, I don't see it being a problem. Just make sure you don't spend more than 6 months a year outside the US.

I started getting worried the more I was thinking about being trapped with having no option to stay with my wife (neither as a legal resident or as a visitor traveling on VWP).
