I'm not commenting on the method of killing oneself but rather the thought that the suicide rate in Japan has gone up with the invention of the train.

Was that a serious comment?

If you are going to kill yourself, please don't involve someone else and scar them for life. People jumping in front of trains/cars/whatever... ugh, I can't imagine being the person to hit them.

I know that realistically, the people who are contemplating doing this aren't exactly in the mind of looking out for others at the moment.

Suicide by train has got to be one of the most gruesome ways to off yourself. Had a buddy of mine jump in front of an Orange Line train our senior year in high school. It wasn't pretty, they found his severed head about 100 yards away from the rest of his body.

Yea, I was on a train that someone jumped in front of. Not nice.

It is a lot harder to gut yourself with a knife than it is to jump in front of a train. Not to say it started with the invention of trains, but it has shifted more to kill yourself by jumping in front of a train than with a knife.

The ones that take out their wives/husbands/co-workers or family before killing themselves are the worst.

We had a Chief a couple years ago did that. Sad story. He was married to a woman from the PI. Started messing with another woman. Instead of divorcing her, he wanted her and his kids taken out of the picture. They went to the PI to see her family. In a cab, a guy jumped in with a gun and hijacked the cab. In tagalog, he said to drive somewhere so he could kill the husband, wife and kids. The wife freaked out and ended up choking the guy long enough for them to get out of the cab and escape. After this, it was discovered, the husband paid the guy to try and kill his wife and kids. When he was caught, he shot and killed his wife and kids, then killed himself. Coward.

that's your assumption. i think that education and jobs in addition to proper gun control would work wonders. gun control isn't the goal, big picture, because gun violence is a symptom of the problem not the root of the problem.

I would impulsively agree with you but.....

Why would doing more of the same not make it even worse?

Something changed which stopped progress for poor blacks and made a regress,

-More money is spent per student on low income schools than suburban schools.

-These areas are run and administered by a majority of Black professionals and not ambivalent whites.

-Record amounts of money is being spent to combat the social aspect of community too.

-Jobs don't appear from nowhere, they require a semi educated work force. Thats even more true the higher the minimum wage.

-The lowest skilled jobs (entry level) are mostly snatched up by immigrants.

We need to evaluate and see what caused progress to reverse for so many poor blacks.

And they don't tend to throw them all in front of a train or out a window. Say, how do most of these folk kill those they want to take with them?

Ummmm, could it be hands or feet?

Remind me again how many black friends do you have Danno?

Wonder what would happen to the suicide rates in these countries if they did have easy access to guns? My guess is they would go up. Because a country with strict gun laws has a higher suicide rate than the US, it does not correlate to saying guns don't make suicide rates go up. There are reasons why people commit suicide, guns just make it quicker and easier. The numbers show that when guns are removed from the equation, the suicide rates go down.

I would like to see the before and after suicide rates of countries that had fairly free gun ownership and then had the guns taken away. Even a country that had laws as restrictive as we do here in MA. Obviously in China, Japan, Korea etc, the problem is not guns. It's mental health, just like it is here. We need to treat the cause, not the symptoms.

That's messed up. Coward is right.

There's no doubt that mental health and economics are the driving factors behind most gun deaths, but it's the easy access to the guns that makes these deaths easier and drives the numbers way up.

did i say more of the same amount/quality education/jobs? no, because i meant more. much more.

we don't need to investigate anything of the sort. but that is a real nice list of piss poor excuses. nice job.
