13 Year Old Boy Killed Carrying A Pellet Gun

There are approx 100 million more people in the US than there was in the 1970's, so the gun death rate has gone down. Back then you could go hunting and walk down the side of the road carrying a shotgun and nobody would have given you a second glance. Today, anyone with a gun is a psychopathic murderer. The media does do a great job of instilling fear, but these school shootings just didn't happen as frequently as they do today. Something has changed in people. Home life, single parents, etc. Something is drastically wrong.

30K deaths per year by firearm is a problem no matter how you slice it. There is no justification for it. Sure society as a whole has changed, but the constant is the deaths and the guns, they keep coming.

1. A large portion of these deaths are suicides. After AU. banned guns their suicide rate remained suggesting people will go to the next means.

This is why anti-gun people always say GUN DEATHS rather that MURDERS BY GUNS.

2.A large portion of the remaining gun deaths are isolated to certain districts of urban areas by a small portion of Blacks... (Young black males).

1. availability of guns wouldn't affect the total suicides by gun? please.

2. does it matter who is being killed by guns? no.

If people didn't kill themselves with guns, they'd just use something else, like egg beaters. So it's better to just keep the guns.

It matters to Danno, he wants to assure everyone whatever is going on in the world, you can always point the finger at black people. It should be a drinking game here.

And their homicide statistics have been steadily declining for years.

Also, I'm fairly certain their suicide rates have declined as well, actually.

1. Yes it would lower the Suicides by gun and they would be made up in other ways.

2. Yes it does matter. when problems are wide spread and nation wide, those type of solutions might make sense.

If only a few beaches were experiencing Shark attacks would we close every beach in the country>?

3. I think we can agree stoping this epidemic of Shootings in parts of the inner city needs more attention, it just seems no one wants to do more than lament it on occasion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_in_Australia

Suicide rates for both males and females have generally decreased since the mid-90s with the overall suicide rate decreasing by 23% between 1999 and 2009.

Suicide rates for males peaked in 1997 at 23.6 per 100,000 but have steadily decreased since then and stood at 14.9 per 100 000 in 2009. Female rates reached a high of 6.2 per 100 000 in 1997. Rates declined after that and was 4.5 per 100 000 in 2009.

many suicides would end up being thoughts of suicide or attempted suicide with less effective means. in the heat of the moment a suicidal person with access to a gun is in much deeper than a suicidal person looking for a way to go about it.

what do you mean by "parts of the inner city needs more attention"

1. And so have ours.

2. To be fair, we need to look at the actual statistics to see how the suicide rate was affected.

Black people. I'm taking a drink of water right now.

My only point, since I'm tired of talking about guns day in and day out, is that Australia's suicide numbers have not remained the same, as Danno has claimed.

A sharp decrease in suicides since the gun ban went into affect? But this can't be. People should still be killing themselves with whatever they can get their hands on, clubs, knives, hands or feet. Surely there are plenty of other means available to commit suicide than by gun. What's going on?

One death is too many. But the murder rate has gone down even though there are more guns and 100 million more people. Suicide is a mental health issue. Treat the cause and the suicide rate will drop too, IMO.
