No, I think that the majority of people use legitimate debit cards when paying for something. This article isn't about a bad check. Or a stolen card. It is about someone being profiled for no reason at all. A young man went into a store, chose an item and paid for it. I think that is still legal in all 50 states. If a 5 year old walks into 7-11 and puts a gallon of milk and a $5 bill on the counter, the clerk sells them the milk.

We are talking about Danno. He is suspicious of people with anything less than a tan.

Q: If the shop were yours and you would be out the money if it were a stolen card.... would you have acted, gave it a second thought or not?

You know Danno, after having had 24 hrs to digest this and reading several sources. If they thought his card was fraudulent and had a valid reason, they should have denied him the sale. On this one I think the kid has a legitimate beef.

Why would I assume every customer might be using a stolen card? Or should I only think this if the customer happened to be black? And that's if I own the store. What was the clerks motive in this case?

That is the piece missing for me.What was the clerk's motive. I would like to hear that. It seems if he had no valid reason to deny the sale, then the police had no reason to detain him

Wow, I'm taking a picture of this.

Honestly, after they checked his ID and the card, they could have asked for a second form of ID. There were ways to handle this before it got to this point.

Admittedly a lot of times there is more to a story than reported when it first hits the press. However I am with you. They let him use the card. I assume they checked his ID. To me after that it's over.

I also think the cops did not have to detain him. They could have quickly determined he had a legitimate Id and sent him on his way

I do disagree that if he had been white, it could not have happened.

If he was white, this wouldn't have happened. What we are saying with how they should have handled it is how they would have done it.

Detaining someone for a $350 belt is way more productive than catching murderers and rapist. I agree with the police 100%.

I guess unless you win the lottery, you just can't win.

They could have taken his picture, fingerprints, given him a rectal exam, called the FBI, INTERPOL, Homeland Security, etc. just to make sure. We're talking Bernie Madoff fraud here. I mean how many times do customers actually walk into a store and buy things?

But if a black person won the lottery they should be investigated to be sure they didn't steal the winning ticket or making a counterfeit copy. We all know how sneaky they are when they want to screw over the system.
