I brought my marriage certificate, though they said it wasn't an issue. I would bring it just in case and you should have no issues. I kept my passport in my maiden name as I just had it renewed before I moved to the states.

Name on your flight ticket should match name on your ticket.

Also keep copy of your marriage certificate as that would prove name on your GC is valid too, might need it when you re-enter.

Other than that you are good to go.

Up to you as to how hard it is to get a new passport while in the US and the cost and all that. Carry your Marriage Certificate and make certain your ticket name matches the passport name.

Hi. So we have the same dilemma.

My wife has booked a trip to Poland in 2 months without me.

Flight ticket (married name), Passport (maiden name), 10yr GC (married name).

It's too late to update her with a new Passport since the embassy seems very difficult to deal with and it's at least a 3 month process.

I assume leaving the US is not a terrible problem. But will coming back be a problem? Hopefully a marriage certificate will be a backup. What should she expect?

Thanks.

Actually getting out of the US maybe a problem as the government issued ID--Polish passport--does not match the name on her ticket. You could get a cranky TSA agent that will not let her past security, or a cranky airline employee that will not let her board the airplane or you may not have any problems at all. Her airline ticket should be in the name on the government issued ID used for travel. All the GC does is allow her to re-enter the US. The airlines check the GC very carefully. Typically people in your wife's situation book the ticket in the maiden name and use the marriage certificate to show that the GC name and the passport name refer to the same person for the return trip. She may not have any problems or she will have all kinds. I would change the name on the ticket to her maiden name, but that's me. YMMV.

Good luck,

Dave

I agree i think ticket name should always be the same as traveling document which in this case is Passport. Green card is "only" an immigration document allowing to enter US but not travel around the world. I'd change the name so at least call an airline company and after making sure i speak to a competent person and check if that's the case. Edited by agnesb

Bought ticket in wife's Green Card name (married name). Passport is in maiden (Russian) name. Decided better to have ticket in passport (maiden) name after looking at many posts here and thinking about it. It makes much more sense. So, what to do? I called the airline. They changed the name on the ticket to my wife's maiden (Russian) name within one day at no cost. They actually seem to have replaced the original e-ticket with a new one. I don't know if it matters that I called with the change request the morning after placing the original order online; maybe I intercepted some process between America and Moscow (where the airline is headquartered). Or they just do this kind of thing routinely. My wife feels much better now.

Hi All

I have my maiden last name on my passport and my married last name on Conditional Green Card.

Will that affect me traveling internationally or working here?

I have been following this link and what I read is, as long as the flight tickets match my passport and I have my marriage certificate its fine to travel internationally. Please let me know if its still valid since the post has been a year old, so wanted to know opinions
