Do minor children also turn-in their green cards before the oath ceremony?

I know my wife is supposed to return her green card before the oath ceremony, but what about my stepson, who automatically gains citizenship through his mother?

I'm planning on submitting an N600 for him...should it be done during that process?

CITIZENSHIP

07-15-13: Mailed N-400 to Dallas Lockbox.

07-23-13: Check cashed.

07-26-13: NOA received in the mail with Priority Date (7/18).

07-30-13: Received biometrics notice in the mail.

08-08-13: Biometrics/fingerprints in Austin, TX.

08-12-13: In-line for interview appointment.

08-19-13: NOA received in the mail to appear for interview.

10-08-13: N-400 interview in San Antonio, TX -- Approved.

10-16-13: In-line for oath ceremony.

11-07-13: Received N-445 notice in the mail.

11-27-13: Oath ceremony in Austin, TX (135 days).
12-20-13: Received US passport in the mail.

I don't think that they have to turn in their green card until the N600 is approved and issued. When you apply for your step son's passport you will have to send a copy of the mother's naturalization certificate and a copy of the green card. Your step son is to young to take an oath otherwise he would have to go through the naturalization process himself. But the bottom line is his green card will be taking away when he goes to get his Naturalization certificate.
