Hello, hoping I can get some help!

From looking at the required vaccinations it appears the only one that applies to his age range (he's 27) is

  • Td - Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
  • Tdap - Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids and acellular pertussis vaccine

He's gone to his GP and gotten his vaccination records although it's confusing to read.

Are there any other vaccinations we should be looking into him getting?

2013-22-05: Sent I-130 to Chicago Lockbox

2013-10-06: NOA1 received - Petition at Overland Park, Kansas

2013-11-12: Email stating our I-130 has been transferred to a local USCIS Office

2013-13-12: Email stating our I-130 was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office

Have now decided to do DCF through the London Embassy:

2013-22-10: Overnighted a second I-130 to London

2013-24-10: NOA1

2013-21-11: Letter requesting that we cancel our I-130 petition filed in the U.S.

2013-09-12: NOA2

Heres the shots needed for 19 through 59 years of age:

Td or Tdap - or get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted.

MMR (if born in 1957 or later) Get a second shot 4 wks later if you have time before your medical. It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval".

Varicella Not routinely given in the UK ; a history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam.

Influenza - During flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed.

Is this for the UK only?

The shots are worldwide requirements. The part about making up a case of chickenpox and the doctor in London will believe you with no proof is specific to the clinic there. However for a spouse visa, the fact that the shot is not easily available in the country is also a waiver that can be marked and accepted. (That isn't true for a fiancé visa because any shots not available in a country can be given once in the US before adjustment of status. A spouse has to be complete with shots by the interview, so if something is not available, it can be waived.).

Saying you had chickenpox is supposed to be accepted according to technical instruction to the doctors, but I can't speak for experiences other than London whether they do that or not.

Thanks. This is helpful.

I'm not sure if Italy will require the flu shot. Something tells me they will!

Also, my husband's tetanus is current, but he did not receive a DTP or DtaP. Should we jsut wait for the medical ??(whenever that happens!!) I'm not sure if he can get this combo vaccination since his tetanus is under 10 years. Prob best to let the Embassy appointed doc decide and pay at the time of visit?

As for MMR - he had all three when he was a child and it is noted on his record. Hope we can avoid that one!

Thanks!

Is there anything in his childhood record for Diptheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis? Those letters are US terminology and you may have been immunized for the diseases but it was called something different.

And yes, you can always pay for shots at the medical. Whatever it takes to get a visa, right?

Sadly no. nothing for diptheria. He had a series of tetanus shots, but nothing for diptheria or pertussis. I translated the ones he received as a child and none of these apply.

The only shots he will not have are the Diptheria and the Flu if Italy requires.

He has no MMR vaccine, but he got all three as a child and it is noted on his records as well as a doctor's note confirming.

Let's see how it goes!!

thanks!
