to complete DS-160 while waiting for the consulate's instruction

Just thought I would share, as I am also confused and seems to be in the dark with the implementation of DS-160.

My fiance (the petitioner) got something in the mail today

It says:

Dear (name of petitoner),

The NVC received your fiance(e)'s approved I-129F petition from USCIS. The NVC will now forward the petition to the US Embassy or Consulate in SIngapore. The US Embassy or Consulate will contact your fiance(e) when they are ready to process his or her petition.

In the meantime, please have your fiance(e) and his or her children visit ceac.state.gov and complete Form DS-160 to apply for a K visa.

Please keep the following information for your records:

Case Number

USCIS Receipt Number

Principal Applicant

Petitioner

Interview Location

Sincerely,

US Department of State

Bureau of Consular Affairs

Waiting patiently for the Consulate here in Singapore for further instructions.

It says "In the meantime, please have your fiance(e) and his or her children visit ceac.state.gov and complete Form DS-160 to apply for a K visa." This means you can go ahead and fill it out before you get the letter from the embassy & just be sure to keep all of the information it lists at the bottom.

Yeah I filled it out as soon as my fiance told me he got the letter. As I remember, once that was filled out, the next packet came.

in in the same boat, my wife has terrible internet connection. i understand she has to electronicaly sign legaly, but can i here in the usa fill it all out for her, save it somehow, and she can access what i gave filled out, sign it and print it????? thanks

You can partially fill it out and revisit it as a saved form within a 30 day period. You can even save an offline copy (as an exe file) and upload that at a later date to complete before submitting. Once I knew of this functionality I started filling it out way in advance and simply checked it over before submitting weeks later.

As stated above, do have a digital passport photo at the ready, and also remember to save/print the confirmation screen as you will need this at interview.

It is also doable for a beneficiary to finish a DS-160 online in one sitting. I did this myself, and as I can remember I think I finished in about 30 - 40mins.

Just make sure you'll have critical information ready by your side such as:

Its information he knows or is quickly retrieved, yet it took him several days with about an hour each time to just complete his G-325A. Drove me nuts! So, with that being said, is it possible (and legal) for me to access his DS-160 when the time comes and fill out most of it myself & then let him finish? Obviously, this would be what he would prefer (not just me) because he hates filling out anything due to how long it takes him.

You can ask in an internet cafe or photo center to scan it for you.

Or you can take another passport photo and purchase the digital file, which is what I did.

I just didn't go through that route, so I can't give you more advice than to let him study first the DS-160 example form here in VJ, so he knows what specifics are needed in filling-out the form online.

Maybe somebody who did this for their beneficiary can be more helpful.
