I hope what they meant was "English speaking only" as I felt the article was more or should have been more, about language barrier.

Seeing the money was raised privately for the program, it's really not a part of AA at all.

I still think that using the language barrier between the lifeguards and the swimmers as the reason for this program is a poor excuse for the kids not properly learning the English language, and this is at a public school of all places. There's also a line in that story where they say "the lifeguards are white and we don't like that". That doesn't float with me and if the roles were reversed and a white person said something of this nature, he/she would already be on a deserted island somewhere with no food or water to die a long and painful death.

Yes, that part was left out.

The line in the story was completely out of line. I didn't even see it in the first story.

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

Then they go out and spend 15K of taxpayers money, to fund a course to qualify minorities for life guard, that is different than the requirements for everyone else(White people)

No.

Money was raised via donation and community effort. It's not from taxes. Sheesh.

Also the requirements aren't different.

I think going over and correcting the rest would be overkill.

NB has already made it painfully clear he hasn't read or listened to the story. And if he did, he didn't read it properly.

Which nobody would find the least bit surprising.

I think it's a real shame when people let their fear and confusion make their conclusions for them, and let this misconception color their world view, instead of just practicing getting to the truth and understanding things better.

These are NOT the facts at all. You're still enslaved to the right wing propaganda. Free yourself!

C. I have no idea idea how to respond to the overwhelming facts you presented, so I will just call you a nut job or insult you and move on, and claim I already answered the question. ( this covers the tin foil hat stupidity

You have presented 0 facts. All you've done is made it clear that you've once again misunderstood a story and reacted to hysteria rather than actual events.

They raised that 15k to offset the cost of the lifeguard certification courses.

They aren't just taking taxpayers money. They raised the money specifically for this over two years.

And nowhere does it say those courses will be different than the requirements for everyone else. Stop feeding into the hysteria.

Your title, which you got from Fox, is inaccurate. No surprise.

This has nothing to do with AA. And it definitely has nothing to do with hiring lifeguards who can't swim.

You bought into it like they knew you would. Congratulations.

Ok I will play . How do you think they raised the Money. I can promise you it was not from private donations. NPR leans to the left. Raised the money is code for some tax payer funded program somewhere.

The article clearly said swimming was not the most important skill. The taxpayer money was used to form a different program with different requirements

Can whites apply to the program?

It's not that you area bad person, you are just very naive if you think agovt agency raised money thru some kind of bake sales or donations. Govt agencies only know one way. TAXES

Where in the article does it say this?

Sorry. Your sensationalist drivel doesn't fly with people who are willing to look up other sources.

If you think a govt school board went out and raised private funds,we need to talk about some beach front property in turkey
