Yes, I think anyone hired under AA is under-qualified. I'd rather wash dishes in a restaurant, than get a teaching job mainly because of my gender, although I am less qualified than a white male.

and why are you less qualified than a white male?

I seriously doubt that they would not be admitted if they were.

What if we started demanding that NBA has more whites, and less black, and that it isnt ethnically diverse enough? Or make a white only league?

Actually the NBA was mostly white in the beginning. They don't stop whites from being there. And for the longest time, boxing, basketball, baseball, golf were white only.

If you were hired under AA does that mean you think you don't deserve the job?

The gun nutters believe the former much more than the latter.

Evidently not, Sh_t

I keep waiting for them to do more than quote Jeffersons "tree of liberty needs refreshing blah blah bla."

Wow 12 pages of non-sense and i missed most of it.Being a slum lord does require leaving the house on occasion.

Anyway

Long and short of it, The NPR under pitched the story more than Fox over pitched. Here are the facts

In the name of diversity

They lay on a push to hire Minority only Life guards for minority only pools, because they can relate better to people of their own kind and have the balls to call that stupidity diversity. Call it what it is .. Racism. Is not a a white life guard at a majority black/Hispanic pool diversity. Can you imagine the outrage if a public pool hired white only life guards for majority white pools, because they can relate better to their own kind.On top of that the white life guards would be less qualified..OMG The justice department would be called in.

Then they go out and spend 15K of taxpayers money, to fund a course to qualify minorities for life guard, that is different than the requirements for everyone else(White people)

They open this course up to everyone that is not white.

They openly state that swimming skills are not the most important thing the are after

Yup Liberal lunacy run amok and blatant state sponsored racism at it's worst.

These are NOT the facts at all. You're still enslaved to the right wing propaganda. Free yourself!

They raised that 15k to offset the cost of the lifeguard certification courses.

They aren't just taking taxpayers money. They raised the money specifically for this over two years.

And nowhere does it say those courses will be different than the requirements for everyone else. Stop feeding into the hysteria.

Your title, which you got from Fox, is inaccurate. No surprise.

This has nothing to do with AA. And it definitely has nothing to do with hiring lifeguards who can't swim.

You bought into it like they knew you would. Congratulations.

After finally listening to the original story in it's entirety on the NPR website, I agree with Penny. This course that is being offered to minorities is a pre-cursor to the actual lifeguard certification test. If the participants pass the "swim test" at the end of the course, they are then allowed to apply for the actual lifeguard certification. Why this information was not put into the print story is beyond me, it would have saved a lot of confusion. Take a few minutes to listen to the story below, at 2:48 into the broadcast the reporter states this is the case.

Really? It's quite clear to me why this information was omitted from the right wing circlejerk. It was neither an accident nor oversight. It was done on purpose to whip up the racists. And it worked, too. You can see it right here in this thread.

It's omitted from the NPR print story as well. That was the story I was going by, it goes without saying that the FOX story is a joke.

Because the slant was to pass it off as a failure of AA. Anything to say minorities can't work at the same standard, or even better, reverse racism.

The NPR print story was clear enough for me. It did not suggest in any way that non-swimmers would be hired as lifeguards. Nothing in the NPR print story came close to suggesting any such absurdity.

The NPR story does say: "Recruits who pass a swim test at the end can apply to be city lifeguards."

Exactly. That sentence right there would exclude the sensationalist headline that was produced by the right wing echo chamber to whip up the racists. That is why they had to omit this detail since their goal was to misinform and lie. That's what they do. Misinformation and lies is all they got in support of their sick agenda.

Seeing the money was raised privately for the program, it's really not a part of AA at all.

I still think that using the language barrier between the lifeguards and the swimmers as the reason for this program is a poor excuse for the kids not properly learning the English language, and this is at a public school of all places. There's also a line in that story where they say "the lifeguards are white and we don't like that". That doesn't float with me and if the roles were reversed and a white person said something of this nature, he/she would already be on a deserted island somewhere with no food or water to die a long and painful death.
