The problem with this tactic is what about the folks who aren't doing drugs and aren't in gangs? You alienate the very folks you are sworn to protect.

My main point is.... this behavior (right or wrong) is not racial, it's traditional.

As to your other point, what would be more meaningful as to how cops should take on bad neighborhoods would be to get out in the streets and talk to cops in areas that have seen marked improvement, find out what works.

We allow things like Martial law to be enacted when a certain loss of control happens in an area. IN these events many civil rights are suspended.

SOme might make the case that areas in which murder and crime is so rampant, where kids can not play in front of their homes. Where a ambulance is not even safe to enter...... in these areas law enforcement should have some leeway if they are to rid the criminal element.

What do you say?

So speaking to someone warrants you getting cussed out by a cop? Nice.

Profanity offends you? rolleyes.gif I've heard cruder phrasing burned on a song. & seen rougher handling on a prom dance floor. laughing.gif

Not just some1 - They interacted with a known dealer. That merits an adult conversation involving ...touching. yes.gif

but they didn't know he was a dealer. either one of us could find ourselves in the same boat, just saying hi to a random person on the street.

Who said they did or didn't? I don't think that was revealed. (at least I didn't hear it while watching the vid)

I doubt that would happen on any of the streets I frequent. & The cop discussed the bad hood aspect / influence several times while explaining why they stopped them. They also explained why they ..touched. Bad hood & apparently one of the men got cagey.

The jay walking threat was a bit silly.

I have a problem with someone coming up and insulting me. If this kid was conducting a drug transaction, that's one thing, but speaking?

Well did he ever prove he was not buying drugs

He spoke, that doesn't correlate into drug deal.

The cops didn't know what they said to each other & stopped them to ask. They explained that right at the start. The 1 got cagey so the cops went to touch mode. Cops aren't there to provide excellent customer service. They're there to keep trouble off the street. Please & thank you doesn't always get the job done.

I considered the insults not much different than what's tossed around here (on VJ). More like poking with toothpicks than cutting with a knife. & IMO - that cop was just putting on the alpha male face to make sure they knew he's already marked his territory.

Why do people think we're supposed to like a cop? I've never met one I (really) like. Maybe someday I will but otherwise - I don't care to be friends - just do your job (little piggy).

& let's not overlook - near the end of the vid - when the dude being held in the car came back clean record - the cop said "You're a good man!"

That's just like beating a dog and then afterwards saying good dog. The damage is already done. You have never been in the back of a squad car I am assuming.

I was 15 in the car with my brother. They pulled us over saying he was a drug dealer. Nice clean car, no rims, no loud music, my mom was not having this. They said I was his girlfriend. We were both wearing government badges for the internships we were doing during that summer.

The female police officer searched me, not against the car. She did it towards the restaurant so people could see her rubbing my breast and genital areas. I was humiliated, rubbed down by a female, I was on my cycle so she rubbed extra hard to make sure that it was just my pad.

After they verified where we worked and that we were indeed sister and brothers, they said okay you can go. Be good little boys and girls you hear.

How would you feel if this was your child? My mom was furious!

I was ...different... in my youth & my eyes have seen much more than I wish (now that I'm "matured") = Your assumption is incorrect.

I'm taking in the whole event. It's easy to pull one phrase out of context and make the situation more dramatic.

Your story = I am disgusted by the sadistic behavior of the cop & I feel sadness for you and your mother.

As for these young men & the way the situation played out - My advice would be = Once they got you, there's nothing any1 can do but what they decide, so next time - take another route, keep your head down & when the man asks you to stop & talk = Stop & talk = keep your hands visible, lots of yes sir and no sir, do what they say & don't talk unless asked a question.

There's no room for pride. It's kinda like dealing with a bear - just play dead. Coz an innocent man usually gets to walk away free. A guilty man or one that fights back - gets eaten.

Every time I have been pulled over they tell me I am drunk... they can smell it on me. (they say)

This is the game they often play to see how you will respond, don't take it so personal.

No innocent person should have to crawl before the law if you are not doing anything wrong and you don't "appear" to be doing anything wrong.

Because if you are going to look like rif-raff, or go to places they go, you should expect the cop to up his critical eye.

I want the cop to be flexible in their approach, according to who they are dealing with and how that person responds.

Face it, you don't give tens of thousands of people across the country a gun and badge and not come up with some videos showing Bullies with a badge, especially in places like Phili.

I didn't look like a riff raff. I was in a dress, I did say we had government interns, and we were driving down a very popular street. It was called Poplar Ave by the way, that many people take to get out of downtown Memphis. I was interning for Human Resources, and my brother was interning for the Sheriff's Department. We both still had bages clipped to us. We received the interns through what was called the Shelby County Commisioners program back then. And they were paid internships.

Well getting into a little trouble and me not ever being in trouble before is different. I boo hooed like a baby. I was too scared to talk back because we were taught police will kill us.
