Philly Cop Stops Black Man, Tells Him ‘All You Do Is Weaken the F---ing Country’

This video was recorded on September 27 and uploaded to YouTube a few days later. It has recently made the rounds on social media and caught the attention of major news outlets. In it, two Philadelphia police officers stop, detain briefly and question two young black men who are walking down the street. The reason given for the stop is that one of the young men said “Hi” to a drug dealer. You should watch the video in its entirety:

There are a number of choice quotes to be pulled from this video, my favorite among them the retort from the young man being stopped and who managed to film the incident, “You not protecting me by stopping me when I’m trying to go to work,” but it’s this exchange that has come to define the encounter:

I used to work in Phili and this is how the cops will treat anyone who does not comply, I have seen this same thing and the color of the cop or the citizen makes no difference.

Once I was in the parking lot of the Spectrum after a concert. Two cops pulled up to some (white) kids, both cops got out and a black cop with one punch took this kid right off his feet. i assumed the kid must have done something earlier.

I alway comply, to not do so only brings more charges if they take you in.

These guys were "profiled" absolutely. If they were in a drug area, communicating with a known drug dealer, even saying hi might be legal grounds to "investigate."

Clearly the language, the lack of respect is there, but I would not assume that they would not treat two white people, who were

in the same place, speaking to the same drug dealer, playing the same games with giving their info, would have not got the exact same result from the cop.

Wow! The guy had a job and was still harassed. Why do people not understand that a person's life choice is just that a life choice. Color does not determine how a person wants to live, their choices in life does.

That is so cool, a cop is profiling a drug user/buyer and doing stuff based on the profile.

Like I said, this is how "law and Order" type cops are, if you want to clean up a drug neighborhood, you don't send Officer patty-cakes.

The problem with this tactic is what about the folks who aren't doing drugs and aren't in gangs? You alienate the very folks you are sworn to protect.

I really liked the way the officer took time to answer questions, provide disclosure & educate the dude on how the process works. He handled it very well.

Nothing about that screamed racism - it screamed = cleaning the streets of drug thugs.
