Hi. My name is Aakash. I have filed I 130, petition for alien relative for my spouse. I filed on August 24th. I can check my application status on USCIS website with the case number they have provided me both through email and postal mail. The status is initial review. I would like to know that approximately how long will it take for initial review? Also, after the initial review has been done, what are the preceding steps I need to take? Any documents that I should keep ready at this point?

Kindly guide. I appreciate your assistance. Thank you.

5 to 6 months, before the casefile arrives in front of an adjudicator.

Maybe.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Best case under 9 months but USCIS is saying 16 months. Who knows.

Everyone is in initial review when their case is received. It means nothing but you are waiting.

Unless you messed up and they need more evidence or you messed up a form (RFE-request for evidence) you will not need to do anything else with USCIS you will get approval whenever than its off to NVC for more documents.

If you want to prepare for next stage (NVC) go here to NVC filers thread and read post #1 and #2. Thats all you can do now. Hope for the best. prepare for a long wait.

It varries mine only took 2 months. Good luck!

Yes December filers were very blessed and most approved in 2 months or less. But we all know that is hardly the norm and hasn't been since december.

USCIS received my I-130 application on February 22, 2013. Up to now, it's still on "Initial Review." Could it be because I also filed I-129 thereafter? Both are still on "Initial Review."
