I don't know why MJ did it. (but) I don't think it's all about acceptance. I think it's also about cosmetics / aesthetics.

It's simple. White trash is used to describe a poor white person. It's considered offensive, but it's limited in scope. If you called Brad Pitt PWT, he probably just roll his eyes at you since it's so out of his range.

But the n word? If you're black you can't escape it. Rich, poor, smart, dumb. It's of no consequence, that's how you will be perceived by some. That's why it pisses me off when some uninformed white person says all you have to do is not be ignorant and you'll rise above it. That's complete BS. Because even as intelligent, bright, affluent as you can possibly be, you can be reduced to that word by it's mere utterance. Our Commander in Chief was almost called that by a candidate running for president, he stopped short of saying it once he realized he was about to say it on camera.
