Travel within the US using passport instead of greencard

Hi,

I have a greencard in my married name and a passport in my maiden name.

I plan to travel within the US by air. My greencard is still valid. So is my passport. However, the I-94 on my passport was expired over a year ago as well as my K-1 visa.

For some personal reason I don't want to use my married name any more (in fact, I'm trying to get my maiden name back but it can't be done in time for my travel plan).

I wonder if I can buy the ticket under my maiden name and travel with my passport. Yes, I'm going to travel WITHIN the US.

If you have any ideas, please share with me.

Thank you.

Your I-94 and K1 are irrelevant.. you can purchase ticket in either name married or maiden.

If you purchase ticket in maiden name, you will have to use your passport at TSA checkpoint if you purchase ticket in married name you can use your GC as form of identification at TSA checkpoint.

Other than that you do not need a GC or Passport, if you have DL you can use the DL as form of id too and you do not need GC or Passport at all.

In our last US only trip, key item we needed was the credit card we used for buying our tickets. Another key item was our drivers's license for photo identification. When my stepdaughter was young, got her a state ID for travel. Ha, she was proud of that, made her look like everyone else. She wasn't required to carry her green card, that and her foreign passport stayed safely at home.

Last domestic trip we took about four months ago, state driver's license and ticket name had to match. Traveled with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids. He used his credit card to buy all the tickets, needed that to get our tickets. For both our departure and return trips. Just get a boarding pass now.

Yes, I had to write out a check to my son for our tickets. Was nice on that, didn't want to see my ID, LOL.
