Over the years I have come to the conclusion that for many countries, particularly ones characterized as developing or underdeveloped, the State Department merely uses tourist visa fees to balance the budget. They have no intention of granting tourist visas to much of anyone unless they are well connected and super-wealthy.

Yes I have. Why do you ask?

Just asked. Because if you've been through this interview you would know how CO would limit your time to answer the question and more time for them to giving an explanation. Got approved, I guess?

Most interviews seem to be less than 5 minutes.

Exactly and hence why it is important that the answers are weighty and not nonsense.

On another forum I haunt, a participant who had an opportunity to get LPR but went back to Nigertia instead and was now seeking a tourist visa was advised by a CO on that forum that the response to the very first question, regardless of what it is, should include "I just wanted you to know that I had an opportunity to gain LPR previously but chose to come back to Nigeria and I have no intention to live in the USA".

As an example.

I have been through interview at the embassy before and yes the time they give you for answers are very short.

My response is not to slight you, what is done is done, but to encourage those that follow that the interview should be viewed more like a job interview and not like meeting friends for a coffee.

Knowing what you know now, would you give the same answer you gave previously?

I did not get the tourist visa and my then Fiancee did not get her K1 visa also. So yes I am not looking at the world through rose glasses. We both know why our visas were not successful and it does not have anything to do with time.

I don't.

Knowing what I know now I am just pointing out the obvious.

Very very rarely do I see a Visa refused which does not have a good cause. And even then you only have a part of the story.

I am not going to assume. I would prefer take a lesson from the past rather than looking back and saying, " I wish I knew it or If I could turn back time". It was hurtful to be honest but I learned a lot from that. Again, we are both come to conclusion that all post here to give an insight to people on the forum who wants to pursue a B-1/B-2 visa. It's all my intention.

95% of visa decisions at US embassies are made before the interview; it seems the consular officer did not believe she had sufficient ties to her home country.

This is 100% Accurate. The same thing happened to my Fiancee before we got our K-1. She was going to come and visit, brought proof of job, a copy of papers showing she owned her condo, her car and a few other random things. The interviewer didn't even want to look at them and still issued a denial based on "Not enough evidence tying you to your home country.".

I suspect that it came from the wording of my invitation, but yes it really does speak to the fact that the decision is made before you ever go to the interview.

It's kind of unfortunate. With time off work, flights to Moscow and the Embassy fees we lost well over $1000 for what I really do believe was a pre-determined outcome. It's unfortunate but that's the way things go.

You could try to contact your congressman, but really they will only give you the same info you already have.
