OK, for those of you who have gone through the interview process...Is there a certain order that the Montreal wants the paperwork in? What should be on top? Is it ok to have paperclips within all the paperwork to hold things together? will that set the metal detector off? My fiance has his interview this Friday so we are nervous and want to have everything ready......

Thanks so much

I'm sure there is an order but they asked for them so quickly and I was a bit nervous so I can't remember.

I used the accordion file method, had things well labeled. I had originals and photocopies of everything, with the originals and photocopies paper clipped together. It did not cause problems at the security check, but if I were to do it again I would not paperclip everything together...it just caused problems because they want originals of some things and copies of others and she asked for them pretty quickly. I had paper and clips everywhere!

Actually they don't ask the exact file order. Anyhow I put the interview info letter on the top and it was checked at the door. I suggest that the files should be put in the order you are familiar so that you can take anyone out if the officer asks then. Actually visa office didn't see any documents I took. But I still suggest to take all the files you think it is necessary for case. I think it is better not to use paperclips.

Interview officer is very nice there. Don't worry. Relax and good luck!

thanks so much....so when you brought everything, you don't just hand it to them? You keep it with you until they ask for the information? That's good...Do they ask you many questions? It is good to hear they are sooo nice because my fiance is a sweetheart and he is nervous because he does not know what to expect. He has a great way with people and he is very easy to talk to so I am sure it will go well, it's just the unfamiliar surroundings and all....

thanks again....

Before you talk to the consular officer there's a lady at the window who helps you put all of your documents in the correct order.

thank you, that's good to know....

Paper clips are fine, I used them and used tabs to organize everything. I did this then put an elastic band around it and placed all those in a plastic bag. I whizzed right through security.

It's funny really...I felt like I was back in highschool, ready to do a presentation, but I just felt like I wasn't prepared enough  I liked to be organized.

So when the lady at the window said to me "Can I please have all of your documents" It threw me for a loop. I just handed the different required items through the window and as I did, she checked them of on the checklist. When I went in for the closed door interview, the gentleman there had everything in front of him. I guess he had reviewed it before I came in.

I was never asked for anything additional, like paystubs, taxes (W2s), or evidence. It was quite easy really, and made me feel like I was waaaay overprepared. But I guess it's always better to have too much, than not enough. Especially in a situation like we're all in, when they can deny you at moment's notice.

I'm sure you will do fine however you 'prepare' the paperwork. Just make sure you know how it's all put together. Take your time at the window. You are not on a time limit. :)

I posted in my review of the Consulate in Vancouver that I was given a list of order to put my documents. I had an accordian file as well! Took all of two minutes to put the papers in the right order.

JerseyGirl...they never asked me for ANYTHING! It's actually kind of funny...you have this huge file folder, with everything duplicated, tabbed, notations on the back of pictures...gosh, 3/4 of the file folder was "extra" stuff they may want, and they didn't ask for anything. I know I was lucky, and in retrospect, I'm glad I brought everything, but I did think after...what's all the hoopla about??

I too brought lots of evidence, and they never asked for it. With regards to the order of the documents, the grumpy lady in Mtl,handed me the docs, and quickly yipped to look over them and put them in such a such order, lol I had to get her to repeat it,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
