Hi everyone...

I'd like to ask about the usual waiting time for packet 3. It's been two weeks since we got our case number and until now we still haven't heard anything from the US Consulate in Guangzhou. Every time I track my case number through https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ , my status says "Ready" and it gives the date of the case creation date 01-Oct-2013 and status updated date 01-04-2013. What does it mean?

Please help..

Thank you.

There are no "usual" wait times. The timing for each step is different for everyone, inconsistent. Some cases go from USCIS to the NVC in two days. Ours took five weeks. Ours took another 10 days to get Packet 3. Some get it faster.

If you are waiting for Packet 3, you are waiting to hear from the NVC. Call them for an update. If you are still within the normal time frame, they will tell you. If not, they will tell you how to file an inquiry email. You need to be a little bit patient and a little bit persistent. Too much of one or the other will only hurt you. Good luck.

That doesn't work for a K-1 visa chaser, PhillyJon - but does work for a CR-1 visa chaser. There's no NVC Doc Intake for a K-1 visa, whatsoever.

--

The OP has to wait - it could be any where from 2 weeks to 3.5 months, depending on how GUZ IV wants to handle the case:

--pull the SAFEFILE version and rely on it solely or

--wait for the PAPER casefile to arrive from the China Customs Warehouse

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi Philly,

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, we already called NVC and they said they've already sent the packet or case in Guangzhou. The problem is I still haven't heard from Guangzhou. It's been two weeks already since they sent it here. I read that it will only take more than 10 days (latest) for you to receive the packet 3 from Guangzhou but I haven't received anything. :(

Hi Darnell,

Than you for your reply.

What do you mean by SAFEFILE?

3.5 months? I hope that won't take that long.

I also want to ask you about my police certifcate. It dated from August 2012 - August 2013. September is not covered at all. Do I need to worry about that?

Thank you so much.

i say get on a PC, and use the advanced search tool in the upper right hand corner,

search term = 'Safefile'

Member name = 'Darnell'

click on 'display as posts'.

That'll pull up everything I've ever written about SAFEFILE, and I've written a load of stuff over the last 3 years.

as to your PCC - you know you need at least 2, right? one from China, one from the PI. The one yer asking about, which country issued it?

You can use DHL to track your case.. just because it arrives doesn't mean they are working on it.. mine got sent out on 9/9, received 9/24.. but I'm using the "sent out" date to reference everything since that is the only way to track.. so 9/9 - 8/2 => 38 days for me to start working on the case...

As you can tell from my other post (just updated now), they haven't received August 02 date yet.. so add about 1 1/2 months after they start to receive your case... (1/2 month to get appointment letter, 1 month to interview from appointment letter)..

Hi Darnell.

Thanks, I am aware about the police certificates In fact I have all of those already but need to get new one again because they are all expiring. I got them last year when I went home and last summer in China. But, since this waiting is so long so they are all expiring now and I need to get new ones!

Is it really normal to wait this long for the packet 3 from the consulate? My batch of k-1 filers in the Philippines already got their visas. If I only listen to our lawyer to have it filed in the Philippines instead of here, I should have gotten mine also. This is so frustrating. crying.gif

Yep, it can be frustrating. A sojourn through the Guangzhou consulate seeking a K-1 visa is not walk in the park…… cool.png

Hopefully, the GUZ IV will use the CASEFILE version for your case…..

BTW, in our case, we got DHL delivery confirmation of our packet to the Guangzhou consulate, a week or two after we received the K-1 visa. GUZ IV used the CASEFILE in our case…..mellow.png

Good luck on your visa journey.

Hi A&B, I know. :(

What is "CASEFILE" version?

What do you mean you got the packet from the consulate after you received your k-1 visa? Does it mean I can now schedule my interview without the packet 3 from the consul? In the Philippines, it's like that. They don't need to wait for the packet 3, as long as they got the case number, they can make their interview appointment and medical.

Hi Philly,

It's been two weeks already since they sent it here. I read that it will only take more than 10 days (latest) for you to receive the packet 3 from Guangzhou but I haven't received anything. sad.png

~ My case was strangely fast, NVC told me they sent my case to the Consulate in Guangzhou on September the 9th and the strange thing was on September the 11th, only 2 days later the Consulate has already created our case and started processing it. After a week or so, I emailed the Consulate using their CONTACT US page and I manage to get a reply, telling me that they have sent the P3 packet to my fiancee on the 16 of September. My fiancee got the P3 in the mail on the 28th of September.

I suggest you do email the Consulate, go to this webpage http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/immigrant-visa-unit-question.html

It can take them a while to reply, give it a good week and only email them once, they will reply eventually =] Goodluck
