DS-230: Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, this is THE visa application for IR-1, or CR-1 which ever you are filing for directly at the embassy. In your case you file it when the embassy requests you to file it.

thanks for the links; i had found those but no information about when to file!!! why do some people seem to be filing so quickly after the I-130 is filed? can you file before the consulate requests it? is there any benefit to doing that?

thanks again,

anna

Yes you can file the DS-230 (this is what comes in Packet 3 if my memory services me right). You send this to a different address than the I-130 therefore you can send it and it can start to be processed at the same time as the I-130.

I had a quick look at the form, which appears to be different to the one I completed, i had thought there was an address on mine. Maybe you should do as the other poster says and wait for it to be requested before you send it then at least you know you are sending it to the right place.

At what stage are you in your process Anna? Have you had Packet 3 yet? For us the DS-230 Part I was in this packet, and we had to send it back to the consulate. There were very clear instructions in the Packet about what to do with it though.

Permanent Resident Since 01/03/2007

N-400 application mailed 3/20/17

Credit card charged 3/25/17

NOA 3/31/17
