Now that the hostage situation has ended and Ted Cruz and John Boehner are no longer causing problems for"millions of people" and since there MUSt be some of those millions of people right here on VJ....

HOW were YOU affected and how much did it cost you?

(If you were one of the several thousand Federal employees who got an extra paid vacation...please do not gloat)

I was not affected at all.. but I did learn/gain some insight toward our current government...

It is my humble opinion that all currently serving republican senators/congressmen, are a bunch of wind-bagged, Pu$$ies, and none deserve my vote....

The democrats, want to give more freebies, to those who do not work to support themselves...

and, what is remaining of the so called, middle class, will continue to be screwed.....

I live in northern Virginia and commute to DC on a daily basis. Two weeks of low traffic congestion was delightful.

I took advantage of the stock market dip. Played out nicely = produced a quick gain. Looking forward to January.

So other than passport processing, which could probably be done better by a contractor, the net result was that the government returning to work was a bad thing...so far.

I will say that the VT ANG was shut down and the roar of F-16s was noticed this morning and at one point interrupted a phone call I was making as two of them zoomed overhead. While they remained "on duty" training flights were curtailed. It seems they are making up for lost time

Anyone know how I get more letters in my "member title"? Seems like some of you have more than me. I am jealous. Actually part of my very clever phrase (in Russian) got cutoff, and y'all are missing the punchline. Did I do something wrong?

States can introduce amendments to the consitution without congress. If two thirds of the states pass an amendment it gets added...congress does not have to like it

I really think there should be a penalty for NOT doing what they are constitutionally required to do....produce a budget for their two year term of office. If they can not get it done in 100 days after being sworn in, then TOSS all of them out...all 535 of them and have a new election...and the bums that couldn't get it done cannot run again.

We will not have this nonsense.

I do have a friend works at the local Air Force Museum

It shut down but all employees still reported to work and got paid

No problem since it is privately funded and the actual tour guides are all volunteers.

However it is on Govt land..The Col said he was ordered to shut it down.

Could not explain why as it did not cost the Govt one penny to operate

I was not affected by the shut down but Obama Care will cause my insurance premiums to go up next year. My company hasn't given me an amount yet but they are estimating thier part of the premiums will go up at least 12 million, and 18 million in 2015. I am also working with a manufacturing company in Minnesota with about 100 employees, and they were told yesterday that the company would be dropping thier company sponsored health care and they will have to go on the exchange. There were some very unhappy employees.

Amen...It is time for the Libertarian party to make a break out.

They are kinda like pubs except they stay out of peoples personal choices and don't like to send troops overseas.

I owe money to the IRS. ARGH!!!!!!!

Every month, make my little payment. Finally, I have the amount down small enough that I can pay it off. But I couldn't because of the shutdown. That surprised me. I really thought "guy taking my money" would have been one of those jobs that kept going. But I was wrong.

So, the shutdown cost me a few bucks of interest. /shrug

I think most people didn't notice a thing. Actually I think ~85% of govt. was actually running. That's what's funny about the term "shutdown" Makes you think they could get rid of 15% of the govt without an issue. Probably alot more. We have no business spending money on frivolous things when we have a 16+ trillion dollar debt. Sell off all the national parks and privatize all the other tourist attractions. Those are luxuries, not necessities.
