I've heard good things about Virgin Atlantic. How can you not love an airline owned by Richard Branson? :)

Branson needs his head shaken. He told Al Stewart in 1975 that he didn't think he was commercial enough.....His next album was Year of the Cat.

My experiences with flying.

Air Canada: Decent leg room on some flights, a bit cramped on others. English/French instructions no matter what part of the country you're in. Meals are good. Movies are alright. Aeroplan frequent flyer program is probably the best. Lots of check-in staff to get you booked in quickly. Frequent flyer credit cards are CIBC or American Express.

America West: The worse airline ever!!! Zero legroom and I mean zero, no movie, no food, neither of the bathrooms would flush (found out after doing #2....had to wrap my hand in toilet paper and quickly poke the metal flap down) no blankets on board (they're based in Phoenix) so they have to turn up the cabin heat to warm people up (too hot and stuffy for my tastes). Generally cheaper, but not worth it to me. I will probably never fly with them again. On the plus side, getting out in Phoenix feels wonderful.

Delta: Only flew with them once, but they had a tall ceiling which meant I didn't have to stand up with my head tilted while waiting to exit.

American Airlines: They give you a lunch bag as you board. No need to wait for food. Don't have to worry about sleeping through the meals. They say they eliminated 2 rows to make more leg room. It's alright, not great for leg room. They could eliminate 2 more rows and I would be fine with it.

EDIT: Things have changed with America Airlines. They put the seats back in and now you can buy your meal if you're in coach.

Continental: Seem to have the most direct flights of all the airlines I've flown with. Generally the cheapest or near the cheapest. Long lines to check in though. They give 1000 bonus miles for buying your ticket through their website, so their frequent flyer program lets you earn miles quick buying airline tickets. But they don't have the selection of non-airline mile options that Aeroplan has. Frequent flyer credit card is Chase.

My favourites have to be Continental and Air Canada. The worst being America West. American Airlines and Delta are ho hum.

I've yet to fly Southwest. I find their prices can't compare with the regular airlines.

I only use US Air simply because they are the easiest route for me through Philly. I always upgrade tho and would never fly cattle class with them...it looks hideous back there! They have a great arrivals lounge with private showers which are perfect when you get off an overnight flight. I've also flown Virgin a lot, cattle and Upper class, and I really can't fault them at all. Their limo service and food is fab

When Jerry and I were dating, we primarily used Air Canada and their affiliates, or Continental.

Since we've been married, we've been using American Airlines, and signed up with their frequent flyer program and flyer points credit card to build up the flyer points. Their service has always been quite good and the rates (if you go on their website and take the time to price out various routes) are usually quite decent.

Usually Southwest . Price is cheap.

First time flying with delta from Vancouver BC, felt like I was in a tin can. Was horrible. ( another reason why I used to go down to seattle and fly Southwest instead. ) This last time that I flew down here with Delta was great ! Had my 2 cats on board and my daughter.

my daughter flies Delta for visits cuz they have the "childrens escort program" for kids who fly alone.

On her trip here at Christmas they didn't have room for her in coach so she went first class. She raved about that flight the whole time she was here. They even offered her Lobster for dinner but she chose chicken fingers instead ! LOL :P

United now because it has direct flight into OHare from Singapore (with only short plane change in Hongkong). Got upgraded to Economy plus which is plenty leg room. Can't complain.

Was Northwest when I lived in the Netherlands, also because of direct flight to OHare.

AA have always been great to me whenever I use them - plus its one of the few direct flights to RDU from London - the food is reasonable the movies are good and the legroom is good too. Also that flight is pretty empty (apart from once I went in August it was FULL which I didnt like so much, lol) so I can move seats and stretch out.

Will be trying their sister airline (I think they are connected anyways, lol) 'US Airways' soon and have never used them.

Used Virgin once to Florida that flight was good too - just a bit crowded.

Continental I flew bewtween Hawaii and LA and it was a bit cramped.

USAir are not affiliated with AA in any way so don't expect such a good service. Generally I read nothing but complaints about USAir which is why I only fly them upgraded, and they have the easiest route for me.

The only good thing I've noticed is they're often pretty empty so there is plenty of room to stretch out. My last flight with them on 2/14 was only 11 people in first, and 74 up back!

Flyertalk.com is a great resource for regular flyers who want to build up miles for upgrades etc, and orbtiz.com is good for seeing how full your flight is in advance.

I'm normally flying Delta because they are very often the cheapest choice so I started collecting miles with them. But my hubbie used to take continental, until they had bad service, his TV didn't word and he wrote a complaint and didn't get any refund just a "sorry, dude"
