Hi everyone,

After a very long, frustrating year of waiting (my husband and I started the process 29 October last year), I finally had my interview on 7 Oct in Montreal. I was "approved", but then my case went into AP. On 15 October (Monday) I was told by the Consulate that my visa had been issued. It also says so on the CEAC.

Since then I've been furiously checking the usvisa-info website and calling DHL, but to no avail...

My question is: how long does it take between the visa being issued and the passport pick-up?

I have a little baby waiting for me in the US and I'm longing to be reunited with him.......

Any help MUCH appreciated.

Rachel

it depends i just got approved today

and it can take 7 to 10 days for courier

but just keep calling

Thanks for your response.

Sooo frustrating: I'm literally 5 minutes away from the COnsulate in Montreal, but have to wait for days for my passport to get to Lachine........

Keep me posted on your progress!

This is a soft spot with me. It depends on the embassy and what system they use for delivery, but generally it should take no longer than two weeks. I freaked out last year when my visa took a little over four weeks to arrive.

The reasons can be many.. Incompetent mail service, additional background checks, clerical errors and so forth. In my case what had happened was the embassy in Stockholm forgot to have me sign DS-230 part 2, and forwarded my entire file to the embassy in Oslo for me to come sign in person. Of course, no one actually informed me of this until I got a call from Oslo a month later asking me to come sign.

Have you tried calling/emailing the embassy?

Oh wow... And here I was, all packed and ready to do :~

I did send the Consulate a letter (trying to explain my situation with the baby), and an email through their website asking when I could expect to pick up my passport, but have not heard back.

Thanks for your reply,

Have you been checking your junk mail folder? I would call DHL with your number and find out what is going on. It honestly took me a day to get my passport back, but it's taken others a week or two.

I know you're on a time crunch but other than contacting the Montreal consulate or DHL there really isn't much you can do.

My visa interview was on November 4th. Two weeks later I began calling DOS who could only tell me that the visa was issued on November 9th. I emailed the embassy multiple times and the response was always "we have not yet mailed your passport. we will contact you in a weeks time" and "as previously stated, we have not yet mailed your passport. we will contact you." DOS kept telling me "ask the embassy."

The end of November and beginning of December was a complete nightmare. I remember harassing the mail man every day asking for the brown envelope.

Eventually, unexpectedly I finally got a call on December 4th to come pick it up.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

Update: the DOS told me yesterday there was an "issue" with the visa stamp (???). Last night I got an email from DHL telling me they had my passport but it wasn`t ready for pickup (????). What does that even MEAN. I am of course going to harass them on the phone all day!

Anyways, I guess all this is very slow progress. And some folks have far worse stories than mine. All I can say is that this immigration process has been pretty inhumane.
