Family visa for China

Hello,

Visajourney has been a great site and helped us out so much already with getting my wife's green card!

Soon we will have our first baby and then need to go back to China to visit with family.

Wanted to see if any Chinese or a spouse of a Chinese can help out. I currently have a Chinese visa/resident permit for visiting family and it is set to expire in November. We will not be back to China before it expires, which means I need to get a new visa before we go.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a family visa for China outside of China? I just don't want to spend money on a single entry tourist visa, or one that expires after only a few months.

I have been living in China for six years and have 4-5 resident permits during that time, so I think it should be easy, but not sure if possible or how to go about it.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

Don't know which PRC embassy or consulate in your area would be able to provide information. Suggest that you Google for contact information and then contact the closest PRC embassy or consulate to you for Chinese visa information.

Good luck and have a good trip with your new baobao.

Your information indicates you are in Indiana, the Chinese Consulate of jurisdiction is Chicago. You can either go their yourself or have an agent take the necessary forms and documents there for you.

We did call the consulate in Chicago, they said it's possible and all the info is on their website.

But the website doesn't have current info. Everything on it is pretty outdated. It's possible to find the visa application on the site, but no details about who qualifies, how long of visa is possible, etc...

When talking with people at the consulates it really comes down to who you talk with and what mood they are in, so hearing about the outcome of others that were in the same spot would be great.

Ya, there was a huge change-up with visa designations this year, and qualifications for getting a visa.

Houston info (which should be exactly the same as Chicago)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thanks Darnell, these links provided a bit more info too!

I forgot to mention that when we spoke with the consulate in Chicago today, they said we would need an S2 visa... But after looking into it further it seems that a Q visa would be more appropriate.

The S visa is for those planning to visit a relative that is a foreigner residing in China, the Q visa is for a relative wanting to visit a Chinese who is residing in China.

depends, as to duration. ya gotta apply for something, whatever you apply for (you now have many choices), well, that's the thing.
