I've seen posts here and on other sites saying the CR-1 visa is good for 6 months, but the wife says two of her QQ friends got visas valid for 3 months. Any recent CR-1 people have insight? Also, after entry, can she travel back to China before the green card arrives? I've seen the visa described as multiple entry and as single entry. The wife needs to rent out her house and wrap up some other things, but I'd like to come to the US first for a month or so and then go home to wrap things up.

My fiancee asked in her QQ group and they said it should be 6 months from the date of the medical screening results. I am not sure how much truth there is to that, but it's what her QQ group says.

We filed a K-1. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

ya, if she got an expiration date on the visa that 3 months away, I have to think the medical was done 3 months prior,

as the expiration date is tied to the medical exam.

Technically, she could turn around after exiting a USA POE, same day, as the POE puts a stamp in her passport that endorses the VISA to be used as a temp green card, an I-551 document, for a year.

So, tell us? What was the date of the medical exam ?

The visa is good for 6 months or until the medical expires. If the medical is 3 months before the interview then the visa is issued for 3 months. That is the amount of time she has to enter the US. Once she enters the US she is an LPR and can come and go ( she will have a stamp in her passport good for a year and a green card will come good for X years )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

aiyo. that visa is good ONLY for the duration on the 2 dates listed,

and thats ONLY to get into the USA. There is no extension.

Once she's in the USA, a new period of duration starts, starting with the POE date, and will be stamped in the passport. She has 1 year after POE date, using her passport, visa, and POE stamp (these 3 things).

It's very strange she only has 3 months. My wife's medical was in september also, and the last date on the visa is exactly 180 days past the medical exam date.

If you study the visa, look at the sentence containing 'endorsement'. That should clear up a lot of stuff.

My wife's visa has dates on it, in this format:

DDMMMYYYY

ex

04MAR2014

Maybe take another look??

It's one of my wife's QQ friends who said she has 3 months. Maybe the friend had the exam 3 months before the interview.

We are still waiting for the passport/visa to arrive. I'm just trying to figure out in advance our options for when she comes to the US.

180 days would be plenty of time, but if she comes before Christmas she could go back and wrap stuff up and spend Spring Festival with her family. Seems like we have plenty of options.

ok then. don't sweat this until her visa packet arrives and she reads the visa.

this 'friend' stuff can get troublesome, at times.
