What should I do????

I just arrived on September 30, got married on October 6.

Do I need passport to get the marriage certificate?

I know I need my passport to get the Social Security Number.

I am not too sure on how important it would be in the future... I know they ask for it for AOS... did you make copies of it? Also, please make sure you file a police report and keep a copy of the case etc.... I am sure you will need it in the near future....

Oh no. What happened? Well, when we were applying for the marriage license I was asked for identification and the visa but, as for the getting the marriage certificate after the wedding, the passport wasn't needed anymore. I don't know if the same applies for the state that you're in or if they have their own ways of doing it. I do know the passport is important for getting the SSN and the getting the AOS done.

Someone broke my husband's car and I left my passport in the car, my fault.

We will go get the hard copy of the police report on Friday and ask info about the marriage certificate and hopefully they won't ask my passport to get the marriage certificate.

While waiting for the polifce report, you might want to see how you go about getting a replacement passport. If you have another form of picture ID issued by a government, you can try to use that for the Marriage License and for the SSC. Until you become a USC, you will need the passport to travel internationally. If you have an AOS interview, you will need a form of picture ID to show at the interview. You need a copy of the passport page with the K-1 visa in it--now you will need to submit the police report to indicate that your passport was stolen, unless you scanned in a copy before the passport was stolen (always a good idea to scan in a copy of an NOA1, NOA2, GC, visa that is received from the USCIS so you have it).

First, get a copy of police report. Second, get a new passport. Third, get married file for AOS and get another ID ASAP.

Good luck,

Dave

Tried to explain this to my stepdaughter, with all these alarms put in a car, worthless. All you need is a steel pointed punch and a tiny hammer with a fairly light tap on any window except the windshield. That glass will shatter into a thousand pieces and the alarm won't even go off. Not that makes any difference, nobody pays attention when a car alarm goes off.

So she parks in Milwaukee and leaves her purse in visible sight on the front seat, guess what? Don't leave anything of any value in any car. Can tell you having a German Shepherd dog in the back seat helps tremendously. Its this age old war on drugs, kids are desparate for a fix and will do anything.

Mariage licenses depend on your state, typically some form of a photo ID is required, but we didn't need that because the person in our courthouse knew me.

How are you from your nearest consulate? This can be another problem.

We got the police report (without have to pay cuz in the website said we have to pay per page).

We didn't have problem with the marriage license cuz we got married before the passport got stolen. I thought we will have a problem to get the copy of the Marriage Certificate but we didn't. The officer didn't ask my passport when we asked them 10 copies of the sealed papers. Thank God.

The consulate is in Chicago, three hours driving, I'll call them on Monday to ask information on getting the new passport. I'm thinking to use my married name on the new passport since I'm married already but I don't know if it's okay or not.

This is what happened in USCIS office, my husband and I went there on Friday and a very kind lady helped me to check in her computer about me and she said that I don't have to be worried about the AOS cuz I'm in their system and she even printed me my I-94 paper, she said that for the AOS papers I just need to send the police report, the copies of my passport and visa, also a letter that explaining about how my passport got stolen.

I feel relieve :)
