Overland Park is a large city just outside of KC, MO (more like a suburb), but yes, it is in Kansas. I met a woman who works for immigration, but she only mentioned the downtown office (meaning KC, MO). When I see her again, I'll ask about anything in OP. I live on the Missouri side of Kansas City.

perfect !! at least we'll finally get some inside info ;) or even better idea9dv.gif we can all ship in and pay you to be our stalker ;) then give us the whole truth about this place dancin5hr.gif

I just ran into the immigration lady who works in Kansas City, and I asked her about Overland Park. Sorry if someone already posted this I haven't read the above posts...she said Overland Park is not fully operational yet and they are still hiring ISOs. She also mentioned that the government shut down has delayed that hiring process but they may be back on the hiring trail. She didn't know when it would become fully operational.

that sucks! but on a brighter side, "not fully operational" could also mean it still operates atleast somehow...

I highly doubt there is any bright side, all they have is a room where all of our files are just being piled up they have not even hired all the ISO's they need to open. I do agree that sucks!!!!!!!!!!

I do believe that there are some people who are working there now, so maybe they haven't begun sending a huge volume of files there. I will tell you that Overland Park and Kansas City are so close to one another--probably less than 20 minutes, depending on traffic. With the government shutting down for a couple weeks, pretty much everything slowed to a stop. Employees who were transferring to other offices in different states were delayed that transfer until the government opened again (info from friend). So, now that the government is up and running again, I'm sure they will be working on getting the office fully staffed. Hopefully for all of you things will go quickly. I'm waiting on the Cairo embassy, and she told me they were so backed up there my fiancé's interview might not even occur by spring (sigh).

As for being a stalker for you guys, I'm thinking that might be a fun side job! I'm always interested in honing my stealth-like skills smile.png.

  • 2 weeks later...

I did some internet sleuthing using Google search, Maps, and Streetview I think I have some more information where MSC Overland Park actually is. I'm not a local and not up for a road trip to verify any of this information but here's my best guess.

According to an article from the Kansas City Business Journal dated November 13, 2012:

"USCIS plans a mid-December launch for its operations at the vacant Overland Park office building, 7600 W. 119th St."

I looked the address up on Google Maps thinking to see the buildings in the picture from the article. Instead the address is for a shopping plaza with an office complex in the back corner. I believe the new National Benefits Center - Overland Park to be located in the square building framed the L-shaped building in the back corner.

If you go into street view at the intersection leading into that plaza (Cosner Street and W 119th Street) you'll see a red real estate sign for RED Brokerage and the building just up the road. Red Brokerage has a website with descriptions of property listings including:

7600 W 119th St • R2 Rosana Square Overland Park, KS 66213 Building Size: 100,000 Square Feet % Leased: 100%

That's spot on with the property mentioned in the article:

The General Services Administration, a government agency that handles federal real estate matters, had signed an agreement for the Internal Revenue Service to take 40,151 square feet at Rosana Square in 2010, but it withdrew from the agreement in April.

That prompted USCIS to take the IRS lease at Rosana Square and expand it by 66,064 square feet.

There are many photos of the building on the brokerage website and an informational .pdf file with references to ITT Technical institue, a former occupant. Satellite images from Google Maps of the plaza show dumpsters around the building suggesting someone was cleaning house before they moved in. If I lived anywhere close to Overland Park I'd drive by and see how many cars are parked outside. There's not enough room for 500 new hires to fit in there so that place must be packed. Unfortunately it doesn't look too crowded from Google Maps satellite view.

Anybody close feel like taking a road trip to check things out for the VJ team?

I also found this video fox4kc.com broadcast November 14th, 2012. You can see a small aerial shot of Rosana Square Shopping Center at 1:28. The MSC Overland Park Building is the white square in the top left quadrant of the aerial shot. I'd love to see a follow-up article or news story about all the jobs they mentioned. There is only one position being advertised on the USAJOBS.gov website currently...

Well, I suppose wink.png--seeing as it's for the VJ team--I'd be able to stop by the area. I've eaten at that Cheesecake Factory just around the corner, so I'm pretty sure I could find it. Give me till the weekend, and I'll do my best.
