This is the main issue we are having.

Obamacare is making private insurance relatively impossible to get, due to high cost.

My mother is on obamacare and my husband because he's over 26 needs to do Obamacare.

Reading online it says Obamacare is letting permanent residents, those with SSN and green cards and legalized aliens to apply.

This is where I'm confused.

Obamacare is free, my mother is also on it, so does this mean Obamacare a "means tested benefit" is an impossible choice due to law? Because the new law is saying get insurance by January or pay a fine monthly until you do. Therefore, the only choice IS obamacare. My mother would still have to pay???

Confusion, confusion, confusion. I don't know what state you are from. If you are lucky and from a state that has it's own exchange (like Kentucky where I live) the sign up works. If your state doesn't have an exchange you have to use the Federal government site, which does not work.

Obamacare, aka the Affordable Care Act, DOES NOT provide free insurance. You have three choices to obtain insurance.

1. Through your employer. If your employer offers health insurance that meets the minimum required standards (your employer should inform you of this) you wil buy from them unless you want to pay a lot more by using choice 3.

2. The healthcare exchange, aka Obamacare. This is an exchange where you provide information regarding your income, in your case for your household, and obtain insurance, possibly at a discount. Your mother is probably not part of your household. You, if you are under 26, can still obtain insurance through her but it would be better if you and your spouse got your own insurance. If for some reason you and your spouse's income is so low you qualify for Medicaid, he cannot no obtain it. He must purchase insurance. Medicaid is a means tested benefit. Advice, if you have no employer insurance go on the exchange and shop around.

3. Buy insurance. Contact an insurance company and buy it. You will recieve no discounts as u would by buying through the exchange.

Please read about the affordable healthcare act and understand. Don't listen to all the gossip and rumors going around.

In no way does your mother being a co-sponsor make your spouse her dependent. She cannot claim him on her taxes, She cannot enroll him on her insurance.

Yeah, we know about that site. We're told we "qualify" for medi-cal, because we don't earn nearly enough to qualify for anything else.

Ugh....

My mother is going to most likely add me to her insurance, and I'll get my husband under Obamacare. Still have yet to speak with the immigration specialist, although she's supposed to be calling me today. Although she left me a message saying that Visajourney and most other people will have a hard time helping me unless they are also living in California (the rules for this specific state) and are up to date with this Obamacare mandating. It keeps changing.

dry.png This is the problem with this Obamacare, everything's up in the air at the moment and most people have no CLUE what they can do. It's a joke. The rules are changing every 5 seconds, the website won't work and health insurances are tossing people around like hot potatoes. 70% increase in sign ups for medicaid. This is such a mess.

Someone kill me LOL helpsmilie.gif
