Hello VJers,

A little background on us and our case:

We hired an immigration lawyer to help us navigate the K-1 visa process. As we are not her only client (!!) it has come to my suspicion that things are not moving as quickly as they could. You see, we waited 44 days for our case to be sent from CSC to the NVC -- and it wasn't until I called the NVC that I got our case number last Friday; our lawyer hasn't yet received a hard-copy notice of the NVC receiving our case.

When I called, I only got the case number and did not ask for a receipt number. Apparently we need both, according to our lawyer, before we can move forward. Since we are paying the lawyer the big bucks, I know I should let her do her job, but I also have a burning desite to be my own advocate to get the ball rolling. My lawyer advised me that I should not be contacting the NVC for the receipt number (?).

So my question for you all is:

When did you find out your receipt #? Did you need your receipt # to book your interview at your local embassy?

Thank you in advance for all of your advice --- I am so thankful for a forum like this, where we can join together and be a support for one another!!

Thank God, we did not use a lawyer for our I-129F. I had a chance calling DoS last night asked about our case number and the guy on the phone told me to waited 6-8 weeks. If I am not mistakenly remember, all you need is your case # from NVC to check whether your case already at embassy or not. Again, I might be wrong and someone can come up and correct it.

Look, Sabrina ...

Sadly ... you both made a mistake by hiring a lawyer .. JUST LIKE ME AND MY FIANCE. Of course people like us hired them to have more security and to not miss any single document or sign... After being in this page for more than a year ... i realize that having a lawyer is like throwing your money and to put you in desperation because there's a momento in this process when you already know what to do exactly because of this page and you just want to make everything by your own BUT your lawyer have all of your documentation and he/she will receive the hard copies.

SO my advice is .... actually what i'm doing right now... I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE LAWYER ANYMORE ...

We will call NVC on our own... and leave the lawyer keep doing her """JOB""" so she doesn't whine. I feel that leaving her everything in her hands will cause us ONCE AGAIN a delay in our papers and we will have to run from one place to another. They work with their OWN times. In the other side ... we .. the clients can't be waiting for so long for them to answer so ...

Do you rthings on your side .. and let the lawyer ... play doing her job.

Good luck!

That's how I feel, davenella. Somebody else commented about only needing your case number to check and see if it was ready at the embassy/consulate. Where do I do this? I have no idea!

USCIS receipt number - you probably have that already.

Consular Casefile Number - you get that at NVC.

If you really not have the USCIS receipt # but do have the Consular Casefile number, call back into NVC, talk with a human, then after you give over the Consular Casefile Number - ask for the USCIS Receipt Number, as they have it there.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Our lawyer received notice from the NVC about our case, so tomorrow she is going to get us started on the necessary paperwork to get on with the next phase of this journey. I hope it goes quickly from here on out!

Me and my now, wife, did not use lawyer, but we had to have a hard copy of the NVC number before our visa company in the Philippines, would schedule the interview, and after I got the number from NVC on the phone, it was about 15-20 days until I received the "hard copy" from NVC..,.,.immediately e mailed to the visa company in the Phils.,.,.and we got an interview date almost immediately

Its just what we went through, best of luck to you, would suggest no one get an attorney, unless extenuating circumstances, waste of money, just follow the advice of this site!

Just to confirm the Receipt number is actually on the NOA notice -- which we have already (NOA2 age is 17 days) its looking like 30-35 days now to process

So all we need to do is :

1) Obtain NVC case number - verbally

2) Check on CEAC website for the status or that case has been entered in system

3) Print out the status

4) Now schedule ST Lukes

5) We can schedule Interview after st Luke is complete
