Hi,

I've gotten some conflicting info from attorneys I am screening for preparing our application with...my financee is from Chiba- outside of Tokyo.

The attorneys are saying the best course of action is a K-1 visa but even with that I have received five different estimates of processing time to approved visa ranging from one year to 100 days. I don't really have any interest in doing the paper work myself.

I read the posts, and the reply to my previous post and it seems I can fly to Japan, get married and we can start the process directly at the embassy and have it done in about three months (if not sooner). I'm confused. The attorneys said this is a high risk process but the posts all make it seem rather straight forward.

Any insight/thoughts would be welcome.

Is this something attorneys don't really know anything about?

Is it because that means less paperwork for them hence they can't charge as much?

Less control of the process- so they don't want to push it?

Or is it "high risk" not really feasible as they say?

Thanks-

David

davidreese,

I have never heard of DCF being "high risk".

Have these attorneys provided any rationale for that statement?

Residency requirement is extremely short for Japan, only a few days, and can be visiting.

Here is a detailed stories of doing this in Japan: http://www.kamya.com/interview/130int.html#JP

There are no high risk in this case, just sounds like some lawyers in fear of not making money, they are on the same level as salesmen always putting pressure for the big sale.

If you plan it right you can do this your self.
