Her immigration status (which is legal, btw, since you have I-485 pending) should not be a part of insurance questions. What have they asked from you?

I took a look at the 797. It states in BOLD letters. "this notice does not grant any immigration status or benefit"

I would take from that it does not give her any legal immigration status which I could use to get her insurance.

Suddenly the idea of getting married first over there, then filing for a wife would have been a better idea.

I've tried three so far. Same answer.

I've been honest about it because what I don;t want is to pay premiums, then have a claim and they refuse to pay because she is out of status. but maybe the best thing to do is say I want to insure my wife and leave it at that. If she has a SSN I guess they would have no reason to check her immigration status.

Most underwriters are pretty lax at the signup stage, but go threw everything with a fine tooth comb if there is a major claim, looking for any reason to deny coverage.

Not relevant for Health Insurance, lots of people here who have no legal status and have Insurance . Look for one who Se habla Espanol.

I do not understand all that I am reading, as my wife and I were married, 6-22-13 and with her still valid I -94 and A# she was eligible to get her own policy, even as my wife, yes, a fairly high deductible, but has very good insurance, after that, like appendicitis or some other thing to happen. We pay 123.00 a month, BC/BS of South Carolina, (MediBlue) which is a great deal to me, I wish I could help some of you, but probably not unless you live in South Carolina.

Well, then maybe you should go back and read it again. It's all there.

You're paying them money. Why does immigration status matter? How does it affect their ability to insure?

I added my spouse as a dependent on my company plan. Just put her name, birth date, SSN, etc. Never asked for any documentation or anything else. In fact, at the time whether she was in status was somewhat unclear.

Maybe individual plans are different, but I can't imagine why.

What your talking about is not the same as OPs. Its two different processes.

He is talking about health insurance

Your talking about state ID. but yes once you get your EAD you should be able to get it.

OP I would personally not talk to them about her immigration status, because I'm going to guess they are assuming that you are talking about an illegal immigrant. ( since that's what most Americans assume whenever you says words like "immigrant" "out of status") Which is not the same situation as your wife. My husband has used his insurance, nothing was different from when I use it.

Yup, I've come to the same conclusion. TMI. "I need insurance for my wife please"
