AoS and IV application until embassy interview -- how long are we likely to wait?

Hi,

We sent the AoS and visa application in August. In September the NVC asked for more details / clarification on a couple of things. I’ve re-done my visa application online, as requested, and my wife and joint-sponsor are about to re-send the AoS applications – just as soon as my wife has received IRS tax transcripts. I think there’ll be a delay with that, considering the current circumstances of the US government. (We did try online, but there was a problem with that, so my wife sent a paper form to request the transcripts).

Anyway, my question is: as soon as everything has been submitted, how long is it likely to take before getting an interview at the US Embassy in London? Are we to expect to wait a few weeks, a few months? Many months? My wife is a US citizen, New York City resident.

And will I be able to continue to visit on the visa waiver?

Thank you for any information.

Once your wife submit everything to NVC then it takes 30 days for NVC to review those documents and give you feedback. If they need more docs or something is incorrect they will send you checklist and if they are satisfied with everything then your case been updated as completed and wait for Interview date to be assigned. Interview dates are been assigned depends on how busy US Embassy in London.

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you, Nick4all,

Ok, so interviews depend on how busy the US embassy is. But what is a good average that we can expect? And then the wait time between interview until the green card – what is a good average? I really have no idea of what to expect.

Thanks again.

when all stuff is in at NVC, figure 20 to 30 days until a case complete.

then, after case complete, figure 10 to 60 days for the interview to be scheduled.

then, the interview is 20 to 35 days out from the scheduling day.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Hi

Thanks, Darnell. Sorry it’s taken me a long time to acknowledge.

Here’s an update:

Mid December: Following earlier request for more information, and delays getting the tax transcripts, plus other delays, everything got sent off (for the second time) in December.

30th December: Received an email from NVC stating that they require the following additional information / amendment, along with two new AoS I-864 forms (one from my wife, and one from our joint-sponsor):

- Proof of my wife’s current employment (examples: a recently dated job letter, pay stub, or a copy of your business license).

- Proof of my wife’s ownership and value of the following assets: Savings/checking accounts, Real Estate, Stocks, bonds, Certificates of Deposit, and other assets.

- A query they had last September about one income amount in the AoS form provided by our joint sponsor was asked again – even though he amended this and it is now correct and all adds up!

Fortunately, we don’t have to send these things. I am required to take them to my interview. First mention of an interview – and very welcome to read :-)

6th January: Received an email from NVC stating: “The National Visa Center has received all documentation necessary to complete pre-processing of your case. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner and attorney (if applicable) will be notified. The applicant should NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until the US Embassy or Consulate General has issued a visa”.

I’m currently in the US (Visa Waiver) and expect to return to the UK late February. And I’m guessing that I could receive correspondence from NVC before the end of February with an interview date. So I’ll then have, according to Darnell’s estimates, 20 to 35 days to get the medical examination done (depending on the actual interview date, of course!). I note that, according to http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3744.html, I should not get the medical examination done until the interview has been scheduled.

According to Darnell’s estimates, I’m between 30 and 95 days away from my interview.

I have two questions:

1. If I return to the UK late February, and if I have not received an interview date by then, is it possible (or advisable) to come back to the USA in March and wait until the interview is scheduled, and then return to London for the interview? Or should I stay out of the USA until after the interview?

2. Assuming everything goes okay at the interview, what happens next? Is there another long wait for the green card? If I recall correctly, it’s meant to be sent to my wife’s address.

Any clarification on the above would be appreciated. Thank you!

Best wishes for 2014!
