My journey since Noa2 approval !

Hi all,

This is my first post on this site though my fiancee is quite the regular. I choose to write this time since its me with whom the latest have been happening..

So here's the thing..Around 2 weeks after we got the Noa2 approval, I started calling up the embassy here in Delhi to see if they had recieved my packet from the NVC..getting through thier is number is a task in itself (since they only have a 2 hour window for enquiries each day) but i got through twice..on both days i was told "we havent recieved it from NVC. call back in 2 weeks" We didnt buy it. So my fiancee started bombarding them with emails..then one fine day she gets an email that says " we have recieved an approval from NVC on 18th oct (Lies!! our noa2 says approved on 31st Oct !!) and had sent the packet 3 the same day (More Lies!!) and we are till date awaiting the DS230-1 from your end (Are you kiddin me??). If you have not recieved then contact the embassy at window1....." So armed with this contradictory mail (remember on the phone that same day the man told me no not here yet call back in 2 weeks), I went to embassy Here the man says we've only recieved it 4 days ago and then proceeds to hand over me a DS230-1 and asks me to fill it up. I do so immediately. He makes a note of it, hands it back and says "thats it.besides the ds230-1, we dont need anything else..Ive made an entry. bring this form back at the interview. We will schedule you one and let you know"..So as things stood, we had leap frogged the packet 3 stage and were now awaiting an interview date.

So after a couple days, we were both a little unsure if the lack of the rest of the requirements, I mean no checklist, no copies of passport, no 2 photos, will result in a delay. We decided to enquire again through email using the special subject heading we had been asked to use "Request for Specific Information" . I attached everything, copy of the DS 230-1 , 2 photos, copies of my passport, told them exactly what i had been told and requested for an interview date. And much to our surprise, the very next day, yes people the very next day, i get this...

"We have scheduled you for a K-1 non immigrant visa interview on 8 January 2007 at 8:00 a.m...In case you. haven’t received the appointment letter as yet, you may collect a duplicate copy of the appointment letter from the Embassy's information window...Please note that before coming for the visa interview the beneficiary is required to submit the documents at one of the nearest VFS office no earlier than fifteen working days and no less than ten working days prior to his/her interview. Failure to submit the documents by ten working days prior to his/her appointment may result in loss of scheduled interview date."

So thats my story so far. Didnt recieve a single packet from the delhi embassy but here I am already with an interview !!!!! I got an interview !!!! Moral of the story? Don't wait for them to send you stuff, arm yourself with their mails, show up at their windows, smile and act real dumb and chances are you'll get your work done faster than you expected !!

Hope after reading this long post someone somewhere went "Eureka!" and even if they didn't best of luck to all...but for now....(going back to dancing.. I GOT AN INTERVIEW !!!

Congratulations on the interview date! It is indeed advisable to (re)act and not to just sit back and wait. At some points through the K1 process being quick can influence positively the following events.

Congratulations on the interview....date same is with me.. my interview is on 20th dec 2006 and i have not yet recived interview latter so me and my fiancee called them and lady told us that latter was send week ago I told her that I never recived it.. so requested her to send again and the lady said ok will send again but now one week and nothing yet the lady was good she told me on phone what to bring for interview.. but still cant go to interview without latter as they wont let me in without interview latter hope i get before 20th dec... and the embassy is like 1300 KM from the place i live.....

Congrats and good luck for your interview. The consulate in Sydney is really hard to contact, no phone number and I am still waiting for a reply from the email i sent.

WOW, yep I'm saying EUREKA and filing the info in my brain for later use. The lesson is DON'T WAIT - ACT! I lived in India for 21 years and all I can say is, your story sound typical of India!
