Dear Friends, Hi.

I need some advise in regards to a B1 visa interview and questions asked . Here is a recap: The applicant has never been to the usa. she has been selected to attend a commercial television award show (as she is a film crew member in a small TV station). she has her sponsor in usa filled all the supporting documents .

She met the sponsor over one of the social services online (there is NO personal relationship between them, Just mutual and business). They met online - she sent her resume to this sponsor who always arrange these type of events and he (60 years old sponsor) offered to sponsor her to join this event and be one of the candidates to be nominated for her talent, So we heard visa officers normally ask extremely difficult questions, what are the common questions in this case?

Please add as many thoughts here as you can.

Filed for B1/B2 twice prior to meeting each other. As far as I can remember, the lady CO from Manila US Embassy just asked the following:

1st application

What is the purpose of your visit? Sales Conference

How long will you be staying? 3 weeks

Do you have any relatives in the US? No

Where did you study? I answered.

Are you married? No. Single.

Approved for 1 year.

Second application

Why are you applying for renewal? I answered.

That was the only question that the CO asked. Didn't even ask for any proofs.

Approved for 10 years.

Hello,

so what I am understanding is getting a B1 visa is not really difficult ? Just have a reason, mean to go to the usa, get a sponsor and you are good to go?

How about ties to home country - how about prove that the applicant will return after their purposed visit?

Thanks

Germans do not need a B1, they can use the VWP.

B1's do not have sponsors.

I wouldn't think that. Otherwise, everyone would've gotten one. I am only speaking based on my personal experience. Of course, I have the supporting documents ready had the consul asked for it. You just merely asked what common questions are being asked. If I were your friend, I'd be ready with ties to home country or just like what Boiler said, if your friend is German, then VWP is all that is needed.

She is a friend and her country is not one of the members of VWP. Her main question is, she never met this person in her life . They met over a social media network and the sponsor liked her work and talent and wanted her to come over for a few days.

Now wouldn't this officer at the consulate ask why/how this person suddenly wanted JUST you from 1.2 billion population of India to come to the U.S.?

How he trust you with sending all his documents and sponsoring you?

she also wanted to know if she needed to show bank statements from her side and does she need to bring a letter from her work showing she is getting these few days off from work to go for visit?

what are the common documents required in this situation from applicant side, she is fully covered in terms of expenses while she is staying in the U.S by her sponsor?

Third hand information is always difficult especially in a case as dubious as this.
