Disapproval of GOP Peaks in Blame for the Budget Crisis

Good, the Republicans are getting their very deserved beating. They don't just deserve it, they practically earned it.

:)

A new high of 74 percent of Americans disapprove of the way the Republicans in Congress are handling Washington’s budget crisis, up significantly in the past two weeks and far exceeding disapproval of both President Obama and congressional Democrats on the issue.

The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that criticism of the GOP’s handling of the budget dispute has grown by 11 percentage points since just before the partial government shutdown began, from 63 to 70 and now 74 percent – clearly leaving the party with the lion’s share of blame. Indeed 54 percent now “strongly” disapprove.

By contrast, 53 percent disapprove of Obama’s work on the issue, essentially flat since the crisis came to a head and a broad 21 points lower than disapproval of the Republicans. Fewer, as well, strongly disapprove of Obama’s performance, 39 percent.

The Democrats in Congress, for their part, remain positioned between the two: Sixty-one percent disapprove of their handling of budget talks in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, unchanged from last week and up 5 points from the week before.

Wide to start, the negative gap between approval and disapproval of the Republicans on this issue has grown from 37 to 46 to 53 points across the past three weeks. That compares to 9-, then 6-, now 11-point negative gaps for Obama, and what’s now a 28-point gap for the Democrats.

GROUPS – While vast partisan differences continue to define these views, the GOP suffers from disproportionate weakness in some key groups. Notably, for the first time this week numerically fewer than half of Republicans – 49 percent – approve of the way their party’s representatives in Congress are handling the budget talks. Obama, by contrast, gets 71 percent approval in his own party. (The Democrats in Congress get 61 percent in-party approval.)

Further, while 58 percent of political independents disapprove of Obama’s work on the issue, that soars to 76 percent disapproval for the GOP’s approach.

In terms of ideology, 59 percent of conservatives disapprove of how the Republicans in Congress are handling the issue, despite their generally closer alignment with GOP policies. Obama’s disapproval among liberals is far lower – 32 percent. And moderates roughly divide on Obama’s approach (49 percent disapprove), while broadly criticizing the Republicans, with 80 percent disapproval.

Who cares. It's down. It's going to stay down because we really don't feel the need to have our children and children's children's futures mortgaged tomorrow so that the obamanation can enjoy their free phones and happy meals today.

Don't care how much is lost or how long it takes, the borrowing and spending needs to stop.

i don't get it.

The "free phones" aren't paid for with tax-payer dollars, but funded by an independent not-for-profit called the Universal Service Administrative Company... so what precisely does that have to do with (the very dramatically stated) "children and children's children's future"?

Not sure what happy meals have to do with anything, either, and well, that last sentence is just plain scary. "No matter what is lost" is a pretty bold statement.

As a liberal, here's my opinion: They were wrong then, just as the House Republicans are wrong now. If you want to talk about reducing the debt, that's fine, but using the debt ceiling and threat of country going into default is not the time or place to responsibly handle it. (Thank god they just talked, though.)

Listen to you giggle while your lib politicians panic and scramble for raising their credit limits

The numbers: Federal revenue for FY 2014 is estimated at 3 trillion. Annual interest on the national debt is 415 billion

So the govt still has a net of 2.5 trillion to fund their operations. If the dems default, then it means: Either they can't budget worth schit or they deliberately chose to.

Live on what you get. You aren't getting any more.

My head is going to explode from the velocity of the liberal spin machine

Care to tell us where the USAC gets it's funding ?

It's that nifty little line on your phone bill, that everyone who actually pays for a phone is charged every month

Head explode? Hardly. All it takes to make this lot run like hell is to toss a couple of facts into the room.

Each quarter, the FCC uses information from the demand filing in combination with carriers’ reported revenue to calculate the contribution factor, dividing total demand by total revenue. The resulting percentage, or contribution factor, determines what portion of interstate and international end-user revenues carriers must contribute to the USF. Typically, the FCC releases the contribution factor for the quarter between the 2nd and 15th day of the month preceding the quarter (e.g., between December 2 and December 15 for the following first quarter).

Consumers may notice a universal service line item on their telephone bills. This line item appears when a telecommunications carrier chooses to recover its universal service contributions directly from its customers through a charge on their telecommunications bills.

Definition of a reality check for stupid libs: Stretching 916 healthcare premium payments to cover 8500 others who aren't paying anything and then expecting to borrow the difference. rofl.gif

Washington state said 9,452 people have fully enrolled in coverage set to begin Jan. 1. Most of them, about 8,500, are going to be covered by Medicaid, the government insurance program for low-income people, with the remaining 916 covered by health plans sold by private insurers through the online state marketplace

Shut it all down.

It just absolutely amazes me that Liberals could actually buy that hog shat

So the Govt asses a fee to any Telcom provider who then passes it onto the consumer, but that is not a tax. then the Govt turns over all that money to a Non-profit who then uses 75% to buy cell phones for eternal generational subsistence teat suckers.

But oddly they think not a penny of that is coming from Tax payers.

Let's just give everybody everything..It doesn't cost anything it's from the Govt.

More uninformed drivel. The only ones in panic are Republicans that haven't lost every last sense of reality.
