Internship question

Hello all,

I am in the final semester of my degree, and one of the last requirements is to finish an internship as part of the course.

I am a grad assistant, but my hours are about to become very little (softball season nearly over in Montana). And I have agreed an internship, on campus with the IT department. The only question I have, as I will not be getting paid for this, and my hours will only be noted for the purposes of the internship, will I be restricted to 20 hours per week, or can I work more than that. My hours for softball from next week will be 3.5 hours a week, just supervising study tables, so I was hoping to be able to work at least 30 hours a week (class internship) to accelarate my knowledge so I can get a good reference , and also be used for future work.

Thanks,

Chris

As a student on the F-1 visa, you can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week when your school is in session. During school break periods, you can work full time, again on-campus. I recommend you check with your DSO, but it's highly unlikely that they will let you extend it to 30 hours per week.

Speak to your DSO, since the internship is required for your degree, there are things the school can do to help
