(Regarding K1 visa)

Can someone tell me if the following is correct?? I am looking up so much and its gotten so tangled and confused and I'm just freaking myself out.

1. Wait until fiance receives packet in mail.
2. Fill out required documents in the packet (DS-230 I/II, DS-2001)
3. Mail completed required documents
4. Keep other documents in packet (DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157)
5. Wait until fiance receives next packet (Appointment letter, list of physicians)
6. Attend interview after completing medical exams, bring visa fee and completed documents (DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157)
Do any of these forms need to be filled out online before the embassy will send anything in the mail? Does the visa fee need to be paid before the interview? Does the DS-160 need to be filled out for a K1 visa? How long should we wait for the packet to arrive in the mail?
Thank you in advance for any information!!

If you have not scheduled an interview yet, then you will only be using the DS-160. It has replaced the other forms > http://travel.state.gov/visa/questions/news/news_4413.html

You need to contact your consulate to find out how it works there. They may send you a packet in the mail, or they may email you instructions. Check with them to find out. http://tunisia.usembassy.gov/contact.html

Really? Maybe you did not read the info from the link >

Department of State Transitions to DS-160 for K Visa Applications

Effective immediately, all K visa applicants are required to complete the DS-160 Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. The DS-160 replaces forms DS-156, DS-156K, and DS-230.

For K visa cases already in process at a U.S. embassy or consulate, the DS-160 is not required when, prior to October 7, 2013, one of the following situations exist:
  • The K visa applicant is already scheduled for an interview.
  • The K visa applicant has already been interviewed and has been requested to submit additional documentation or is pending administrative processing.
  • The K visa applicant has already submitted a valid, signed, unexpired DS-156, DS-156K and/or DS-230 or received instructions to do so.

Not sure where you are in the process. If you have not received anything from your consulate yet and have not filled out any forms or scheduled an appointment already, then you will be using the DS-160 and only the DS-160, as it states in the text from the travel.state.gov website.

I will go ahead and send your post to your regional forum so hopefully you can get answers from those that have gone through Tunisia, although this change is new so others may not know the answers you are seeming to want. If you have already sent back the DS-230 and been sent another packet and have an interview, then the changes won't apply to you and others should be able to assist you.

~ Moved from K-1 Process to Middle East and North Africa regional forum- topic specific for going through Tunisia ~
