Obamacare ‘navigator’ in Kansas has outstanding arrest warrant

A woman with an outstanding warrant for her arrest is currently serving as an Obamacare “navigator” in Lawrence, Kansas.

Rosilyn Wells — the Director of Outreach and Enrollment for the Heartland Community Health-care Center (HCHC) – is “the only full-time Affordable Care Act navigator in Lawrence,” according to the Lawrence Journal-World.

Wells was certified as an Obamacare navigator despite her financial history, which includes a bankruptcy in 2003, a 2007 civil charge from a local check cashing business called Midwest Checkrite for writing a bad check, being more than $1700 behind on her state tax bill, and having an outstanding arrest warrant in nearby Shawnee County. Wells lives and works in Douglass County.

Goodness gracious, the comments section is downright scary. What dark, dark corner of the internet is THAT from?

So am I understanding this correctly... all this boils down to her having access to social security numbers? Because she filed for bankruptcy a decade ago, bounced a check six years ago, owes back taxes, and has a warrant out (which could be for something as benign as an unpaid fine)?

It reminds me of when I got divorced and changed back to my maiden name, I had to provide my parents' social security numbers on the form to update my social security card. It was the exact same form I filled out when I got married all those years ago, but my mother (just her, not my dad) wouldn't give me her number this time, because she was worried about "who would get it" (though she couldn't answer what she thought someone would actually do with her SSN, or how they would do it).

So what happened between the first time I filled out this form and the second? My dad was deployed to Iraq, and suddenly my mother, who had avoided church like the plague her entire life, became a regular churchgoer... and shortly after that, an avid Fox News viewer who was suddenly parroting lines about atheists trying to destroy Christmas, and how the founding fathers "came to America to escape religion persecution".

Forgive me if I'm sensing a pattern of paranoia here.

But yeah, be worried that they know you filed a medical claim. A little hint, they already know without the ACA.

When Obama is at the helm I guess we should just expect these type of people to be running these departments...... departments are are required to Join and required to give our info to.

Somewhat. After her zealousness basically ruined Christmas and persuaded my 16-year-old brother to find any way he can to get out of the house NOW, she went to see a doctor, was diagnosed with early onset menopause, and put on antidepressants. She's a little better now, but I can't tell how much of that is because of the meds and how much of it is just holding her tongue because she realizes she's thiiiis close to losing what little family she has left.

It has nothing to do with Obama (and even less to do with Bush). None of us here actually thinks the President micro-manages a national program to THIS level. That would be absurd.

I'm more concerned about an individual being tarred-and-feathered in the public, not to mention potentially losing her job, just because of financial history. I've been through bankruptcy, and I know someone who had a warrant out for their arrest once (unpaid fine, which is just crazy to me). I can't imagine those details being dragged out into the spotlight and perfect strangers miles away calling for heads on a platter because of it.

Nobody is required to do anything. Even if you sign up for insurance through the markets (which I'm guessing you wouldn't... right?), there is nothing that requires you to do so through a Navigator.

Forgive me for focusing on the gov't programs here and now.... such as the VA hospitals, Medicaid and medicare.

I believe you're referring to me.

Had you bothered to read the entire statement, you would have seen that not only did I say a great deal more than "it works pretty good in another country" (by the way, I happen to think there isn't any reason why we, the self-proclaimed "greatest nation on Earth", would fail where others succeed), I also wrote quite a bit on the subject of VA hospitals, including quotes from the RAND Corporation and many other sources which appear to rebut your claims that they are inefficient and provide unsatisfactory service. In fact, they gave them downright glowing praise, and, giving you the benefit of the doubt, I wasn't able to find any reports to contradict them without turning to partisan sources.

(Also, for the record, Medicare was never brought up, but given that its popularity is well known, perhaps that's why you chose not to.)

I'm still waiting for you to tell me where you got your info on Medicaid and to clarify your statement since you didn't indicate exactly what you meant by "the poor".

If you disagree with published reports on VA efficiency and care, that's fine, but it doesn't speak very well of you that you find it more worthy of your time to attack me on another thread instead of providing any proof to back up your claims.
