I miss Canada a lot lately. I've started hoarding all the Canadiana I can to bring to the U.S. How do you commemorate your homeland?

The Hudson's Bay blanket is a good idea! Back when they were selling the "CANUCK" t-shirts I really wanted one but they were sold out all over T.O.

I want this one so badly sad.png

canuck.jpg

My dad found a funny shirt for me that says something like, "I Love my Canadian Fashion" and it has a toque, etc on it.

I feel sad that whenever I wore my red, plaid flannel, my friends would always compliment my "Brantford tuxedo" (replace Brantford with any other "simple" country town/city) ... no one in the US would ever get it, lolol.

It's insane how much I love Canada and how much I miss it!! Just arrived back home in the US yesterday, already feeling the withdrawal, haha.

My parents left yesterday morning and I always find that I feel super homesick after they are gone. Today is real bad though. I think because I mentioned something about them coming back on Boxing Day on facebook and one of my cousins mentioned that she was hoping to see me over the holidays. I won't be able to go home this year. I might see if my husband has the time available to take off as I may not be able to go home next year as I am hoping to have a job then (last year I had a job and had a whole 3 days off around Christmas which was not nearly enough time to drive up, visit and go home...we did it but it really sucked). So I dunno. If we do go, then I will feel really bad about leaving his parents alone. This sucks. Just having a really bad homesick day I guess.

Has anyone else noticed that the Tim Hortons coffee you get in the states tastes different than in Canada? I was told they use a different blend in the US by one of the girls behind the counter at a Tims in NY. Not sure if she was yanking my chain or not.

we had some at a Tim's in Ohio and it tasted exactly the same, and we also bought a can for home and it tastes the same to us as well :)

okay but where to get tart shells?!?!

I tried to make butter tarts for some friends down here in the USA to introduce them to the wonders. Unfortunately I couldn't find tart shells anywhere I went! When I inquired, they'd suggest pastry dough. No! I want tart shells! Then someone would suggest a pie shell. Um, no.... butter tarts aren't butter pies!

I ended up trying to make my own tart shells and failing miserably :(

I just wish I could find them somewhere!

My husband and I are in Lewiston NY right now and heading to SA Texas in 14 days.....I think I am going to head across the border to Niagara Falls and pick up every piece of cheesy Canadian tourist trinket I can find.....definitely maple sugar cookies and candies....a moose, beaver and a snow Globe ....the biggest one I can find....I know I am going to miss the seasons...every morning since I crossed Oct 2nd, I sit out on our back deck with the dogs and a cup of Tim Horton's and enjoy the cool mornings and changing of the leaves....we have been having an amazing Fall up here this year.....amazing weather :)

You COULD get pastry dough (like Pillsbury or whatever brand you like) and cut out smaller circles for your muffins tins to make the tarts. I was thinking of doing that as I don't have enough cake and pastry flour to make more dough at the moment (mom only brought one bag when she visited! I am asking for 2 bags at Christmas lol!).

Actually...I might do that this weekend!

My husband was telling me I should get a tattoo of a beaver riding a moose... I thought it was silly, until I started imagining the possibilities.

The moose in a gallop, wearing an old, crooked helmet, and the beaver standing on him, one paw on an antler, the other is stuck right out holding a little wooden sword.

... it would be hilarious.

I have 2 Cdn themed Tattoos!! Plus usually have a Team Canada hat on.....Or a Calgary Flames Golf T shirt--or a Sask Riders one,lol I have quite a bit of Cdn clothing--family is always sending me something CDN themed

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I'm not Canadian but this thread made me sad :-(

I hope you all can go home and visit soon.

I'd like to visit Canada sometime

I've met a lot of Americans who want to visit. Make it happen!! My top boss at work is from Canada, and we were reminiscing about how beautiful it is. My heart strings! D:
