Hello everyone! We have been approved and are currently waiting in the dreaded CSC to NVC blackhole ClockWatch2.gif so I thought I would ask this question. My fiance is planning to bring his daughter (8-yr old) with him and she is listed on the application. He has full custody as well as a noterized letter from the biological mother authorizing her to move out of the country. I read in packet 3 form (DS-160 I believe, now online) where I list her as a child that is accompanying the beneficiary. We've included her passport photos, birth certificate, etc. I am wondering if there are any other forms or steps I need to compelete to ensure a smooth transition as they both have to arrive together.

Thank you SO MUCH in advance for any help! good.gif

The information contained in this similar-themed active thread:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/460050-i-129f-package-concerns-about-k-2-visa/ (you have a link there to this thread) is good for K-2 information. The DOS Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) K-1 FAQs were quite helpful for us to gain an overview about the role, timing, and requisites of the K-2 visa:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html

There really isn't much info about the K-2 visa. Some VJ old-timers, including Gary and Alla, really helped us with the K-2 part of the process.

Good luck.

Thank you soooooo much for the additional info! What I am still scratching my head on is whether there is an actual form/application I need to complete for the k-2 or is the k-2 just what they call a visa issued to the child of a k-1 fiance visa holder (aka: no additional form needed)? Based on what I'm reading, both after following your links and a few web searches, it seems like the second option is correct (no add'l forms) but I'm just hoping for confirmation of that. ;-)

Thanks a million again!

My fiancée in Costa Rica is bring her 6 yr. old daughter with her. When she picked up her packet at the consulate, she specifically asked if there was anything additional documents needed (authorization from biological dad, etc) she was told no. Nothing was needed, just her daughters passport. Costa Rican immigration stated the same. No additional "permission" from the biological dad is needed. I was under the impression that a notarized letter or something was needed. Anyone have some insight on this? Is it embassy specific?

I certainly needed additional legal documentation proving I had custody and permission from my children's father to take them out of the country (UK). I'm surprised any embassy would allow it. I'd get a notarised letter from the father anyway just so that base is covered.

Agree with Jay-Kay.

As I have mentioned several times before , this visa process is not for the faint of heart or light of wallet. Stay tuned for fees for AOS....hint..hint..

Oh yes, we have those super lovey fees planned on - ouch! But I guess they are worth it tongue.png Ha haa! Ok, thanks for the help everyone. You've confirmed what I thought and fortunately, also what we've saved up for.
